Celebrity precruise stays, tours, etc

I've checked pricing on them a few times, Rome and NA ports and found that I could do better on my own. I find the planning almost as much fun as the vacation though, and the delta is not always huge so if you'd rather pay a little more and never think of it again it's not a bad plan.

 

I would do at least a quick check on room rates before booking - sometimes the delta is huge and there is no rhyme nor reason to when.

 

Transport from Rome to the port is a big decision though - we took the train down late the previous day and spent the night in Civitavecchia which worked out nicely for us as we had several days in Rome before the cruise and wanted to be on board early to relax and recover from the art museum death march ;)

 

Other options are train the day of, car transfer and a shuttle transfer. If you have 4 or more people, a car transfer is probably as cheap as shuttle tickets each, but the train is really quite convenient. The only issue we had with it was the luggage lugging.
