Recommendation for South Beach Miami Hotel

Hello-

We’re cruising from Miami on Dec. 5th thru the 9th and I’d like to spend the weekend in South Beach before leaving. Can anyone recommend any good, clean, ocean-front hotels in South Beach? And how far would it be from the airport? Pier?

Also, can anyone let me know what the weather is like in early December? I know my two girls are going to want to get in the water, but not so sure about the temperature. Thanks.

:)

The weather in early December is typically very nice with high temps in the upper 70's to 80° or so.

South Beach is not an inexpensive proposition. Many of the hotels are quite old. The nicer ones have been gutted and completely rebuilt, the not so nice ones haven't and can be quite scary! In South Beach the nice hotels aren't cheap and the cheap hotels aren't nice. Also keep in mind that many hotels that call themselves "South Beach" are actually not in the real South Beach. If you won't have a rental car you don't want to be much above the 1700 block or it becomes too far to walk to restaurants, shops, etc.

I've been in and like the following, they're all nice places in great locations...

South Beach Marriott... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/MIAMB

Loews... http://www.loewshotels.com/hotels/miamibeach/default.asp

Marriott Courtyard South Beach (a less expensive option - 3 blocks from the beach)... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/MIACB

Hotel Victor... http://hotelvictorsouthbeach.com/

Ritz-Carlton South Beach... http://www.ritzcarlton.com/resorts/south_beach/default.html
