JRGAPI Posted October 7, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2005 OK Mates I need some input again, everyone has been so helpful. We have booked the Carnival Miracle out of Tampa for Jan. 22,2006 and Carnival Pride out of LA in Nov. 12,2006. Right now I need some help for a hotel in Tampa close to the pier for pre cruise stay and close to shopping area to pick up cruise supplies, things that you don't want to pack for air travel. I have looked at priceline, but I would rather wait for information from everyone. Also what is best way to get from airport to hotel? We have never cruised out of Tampa before, always Miami or Fort Lauderdale. Any help will be greatly appreciated. JR
hdawson Posted October 7, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2005 In Feb we had the downtown Hyatt in Tampa for $50 per night. Very nice property. Would definitely do it again.
BrendaB1 Posted October 7, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 7, 2005 We got Hilton-Westshore last Feb on Priceline for $45. Free airport shuttle, close to International Mall, $5 per person shuttle to the pier. We bid 3 star airport. Nice hotel & mall has lots of shopping & places to eat. More info on Tampa website about the areas. Good luck & enjoy your cruise.
brodie Posted October 7, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 7, 2005 Try the Wynhdam Westshore. I used to stay there on business and it was a nice hotel. They have a small sports bar as well as a Shula's steakhouse right off the lobby. The mall is right across the street for all you goodies.
fishoutofwater Posted October 7, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2005 We did the Chase Suites. It worked great for our family. It is near the airport and they offer a package that can take you to the port. We left our car there all week. So for us it was a great deal. Hotel and parking in the same place. heymom32000 Posted October 8, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 8, 2005 Wynhdam Westshore told me they do not have shuttles to the port but that they will allow us to leave our car parked in their lot while we cruise. So we will just have to pay for a cab to take us.
tadjr Posted October 11, 2005 #7 Share Posted October 11, 2005 You can check out http://www.visittampabay.com This is the Convention and Visitors Bureau and they have lots of great info on the area there. You should be ok in either the downtown or Westshore/Airport area. There are not many/any shops in the downtown area so you would have to take a cab to get any shopping done. If you stay in the Westshore/Airport area, there are 2 shopping malls, several grocery stores and Walmart within about a 5 min cab ride. The cost of a cab from the Airport/Westshore area will be about $25 +/- depending on where you actually stay.
JRGAPI Posted October 13, 2005 Author #8 Share Posted October 13, 2005 I want to thank everyone for your input. This is a wonderful board to get good information. I am planning on bidding on Priceline for room in the Westshore/ Airport area. That looks like the best place to me. Again thank you all.
