Norwegian Getaway 2016 - Girls Trip

My mom and I are planning a girls trip this fall no the Norwegian Getaway. We are leaving the husbands at home and enjoying some girl time! We have sailed Disney, RCL and Carnival. We have never sailed NCL! We are really excited! Reading reviews, NCL seems so much different than any other cruise line we have experienced.

1. What is the first thing we should do when we board?

2. What do you highly recommend we experience while on board?

3. What is your favorite drink and which bar is the best?

4. Do all shows cost extra? If not, do we have to order tickets to the shows that are free? If so, when do we do that? What show do you recommend most?

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! We are looking forward to cruising like a Norwegian.....:D

Sounds fun!

1. We always eat first! O'Sheehans will be open (bar & grill), the buffet (usually super crowded), Flamingo is good too.

If you need to make any dining reservations, I would do that first thing onboard. Last year, we had limited times available once onboard so I suggest making them pre-cruise.

2. We enjoy music so Howl at the Moon has always been a fun time for us.

3. Pineapple Coconut Mojito! If you have the UDP (beverage pkg), I highly recommend the Mojito tasting. While it was not my favorite bar for service, we enjoyed the mojitos the best. Another was the Japanese Martini at Teppanyaki.

4. I believe the only shows that cost extra are Illusionarium and the Wine Lovers Musical. My daughter (8) enjoyed Illusionarium bc it was a magic show. hubs and I thought the food was sub par. We didn't go to any other shows so I can't vouch for those.

@MtnsToSea.. I appreciate your feedback! For dining in the complementary dining rooms, do you have to make reservations or can you just show up to eat?

I will try the pineapple coconut monitor!! YUMMY!! is the monitor tasting included in the beverage package or is that extra?

Thanks!!

tchoney -

First, I think you've chosen the perfect NCL ship to try first! We love the Getaway and will be sailing again on her in a few weeks! :D

Second - to answer your questions:

1 - I also would direct you to O'Sheehan's for food and drink when you first board. Usually, we go by Guest Services and put some money on our accounts - we stash cash for our trips, then deposit into the OB account; this helps us stay on budget - then, we go play!!

2 - BURN THE FLOOR!!!!! Awesome show!! We both loved it! And, my other half doesn't normally go for "musicals". It's high energy most of the show and keeps your attention!! She was singing "Cuando? Cuando? Cuando?" for months after... lol Admission is included in the cruise fare, but I HIGHLY recommend booking your reservations when they open up online at 90 days out. You don't get seat assignments, so get there early if a good seat is important to you. But, be aware, at 10 minutes before show start the reservations are lifted and anyone can come in for the seats that are left. I've heard multiple times of this show "Selling Out".

3 - Yep. Get the Mojito Flight. Available at the Mojito Bar only. Think it's on deck 8, if I remember correctly - by the chandelier. I liked the ambiance, myself.... Last I checked, the flight was not covered by the UBP. However, it's only like $16, and it's worth it to try the wildly different flavors! I liked them all. We loved the cucumber one and the raspberry one the best.

4 - So, I kind of answered this in question 2. But, I'll add that the Legally Blonde show had rave reviews by a lot of people. I diligently made our reservations, we went to the show, but then left about 30 minutes into it. Just wasn't for us... You girls might enjoy it, though. It's included. So, it doesn't really hurt to check it out!

Bonus: (hehehe) Decide if you want to do dinner, then show or vice versa... Plan for 2 hours for either dinner or the show. I think both Burn and Blonde are written for 90 minutes, but of course there is time before and after.

Also, I'm a planner - I've made reservations at the MDRs (Taste, Savor, and Tropicana) for our sailing next month. Shangai's (the noodle bar) is also complimentary, but does not take reservations. This will be our first time trying it out and I've read mixed reviews. Last time we sailed Getaway, I thought it was a la carte like Wasabi, so we didn't try it. Oh - if you like sushi - go to Wasabi for lunch! We found the prices great and the sushi even better! They even made us a specialty roll that we love to get at Benihana's. Lastly, go to Flamingo on deck 16 Aft - it's included - very small buffet style - open for breakfast, lunch, and I think dinner. Cuban/Spanish style food - delicious!! We stopped there multiple times! ;) When we were on the Escape, I was told by one of the officers that they expected the Flamingo to change to Margaritaville, but with the licensing issues they are having, hopefully it doesn't happen! lol

Any other questions about the Getaway, I'd be happy to answer if I can!

I loved hanging out in the adults only bar in the very back of the ship once we all got to know each other it was a great time. also the sunset bar area on the walkway on the side of the ship the outdoor area I would go there quite often. The shows I did not think were very good I like musicals my wife loves them I fell asleep 30 mins into burn the floor which I do not do. So I left she said it was ok. The legally blonde she liked I did not go. As for food thats a tough one everyone has different tastes. I love cagneys the main dining rooms were just like all the other ones on NCL no different. Not bad but not great. Maderno and french were good. I found the buffet not very good even for breakfast unless you had them make you a omelet or eggs with maybe bacon the sausage was bad so was the potatoes all the bread tasted funny or was stale. The bands on the ship and the music by the pool was great. The casino was fun but depends if you lose too much or not lol. Oshehans was a great meeting spot for everyone. There wings ,ribs, and prime rib was good the rest of the snack items were not exp the burgers, pot pie and pizza all bad.
