wannblowbubbles Posted October 10, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 10, 2005 Any recommendations for a dive center for Costa Maya, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Any one used Eden Rock Dive in Grand Cayman? I prefer small verses meat wagon type boats (don't we all). Also any of them that double up with snorkeling as I have family that snorkels. gumba1 Posted October 10, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 10, 2005 :D Was on the Victory 9/25-10/2 Western and went snorkeling in both Cozumel & Grand Cayman. In Cozumel we used Eagle Ray and were extremely pleased ! There were us 3 sisters snorkeling and a couple scuba diving...that's it! Our guide stayed with us the whole time underwater pointing out things and helping us. We did 2 reefs and both are within eyesight of the ship...(I've heard that the 3 reef tour is better if you are scuba diving).....It took about 3 1/2 hrs for the 2 reef. I highly recommend them...keep reading this board and you'll find many comments on many companies so you can choose what's best for you. On Grand Cayman we used Nativeway....Excellent choice. Less than10 of us on the RRR (Reefs, Rays and Rum Pt Beach). Very personal and alot of stingray interaction. Guides pointed out moray eels & nurse shark on snorkel.....made sure we saw all that we could (just like Eagle Ray had done) Good luck....read, read, read and check things out !!! b:D
bruce-r Posted October 10, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 10, 2005 In Costa Maya, check out http://www.dreamtimediving.com/home/index.php In Grand Cayman, you can shore dive at Eden Rock while the other snorkel. There are 2 dive shops right there, http://www.edenrockdive.com/ and http://abanksdivers.com.ky/, although I have used neither of them, so I can't make a personal recommendation either way. For a boat dive I do recommend http://www.neptunesdivers.com I do believe that Casey will take snorkelers if there is space. They only take out 8 divers max and will go to Stingray City, weather permitting of course. In Cozumel, you have the recommendation for Eagleray, but there are other choices, including a shore dive/snorkel at Chankanaab Park, which is about a $8-$12 cab ride to the south. Admission is $12 cash, there are 3 on-site dive shops, a restaurant, lockers, showers, and lots of other stuff to see/do. Blue Angel also offers combo dive/snorkel trips (at the bottom of the page). Finally, I do believe that you can rent dive gear/tanks at Dzul Ha, which is probably the best spot to snorkel from shore as well. Dzul Ha would be the least expensive place to go, and then afterward you would have time for something else, like an afternoon at a beach club. w&k Posted October 11, 2005 #9 Share Posted October 11, 2005 Gotta go with Bruce and John here... Snorked with Eagle Ray a couple of years ago at X-Mas. The snorkeling was fine (for snorkeling), and I'm sure a combo trip would be fine. For diving in CZ, we have gone with BlueXTSea twice (Christi). However, BlueXTSea is divers only, so you won't get a combo there. Went diving with Neptunes in April - Casey and Keith were fabulous. Tried to go with Tanya at Dreamtime in Costa Maya, but the ship didn't make the stop. Have a great trip wherever you get wet! Wendy
dcl1710 Posted October 13, 2005 #10 Share Posted October 13, 2005 Quick question - what are the pros/cons of using the Princess scuba versus the private ones. Which is better? We are going this year and want to have the best experience possible. Thanks in advance for all assistance!
