Nator72 Posted February 15, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2016 Does anyone have any information about this? I'm looking for a way my husband and I can communicate via text when we get separated on board. I don't need to make phone calls, just text. triptolemus Posted February 15, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 15, 2016 What information are you looking for? You pay $8 per device and can communicate via text or voice with other users of the app on board. https://www.ncl.com/downloads/iconcierge
Nator72 Posted February 15, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted February 15, 2016 That seems so inexpensive and easy. I guess I'm wondering if you also need to purchase the wifi package in order for it to work.

No....while it uses the ship's wifi, there is no actual wifi access (i.e. emails, Facebook, etc.) You can literally only use iConcierge if you don't want to purchase an internet package. Nator72 Posted February 15, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted February 15, 2016 Awesome. Thank you for the info. We are planning to stay "unplugged" for the week, but still want to be able to contact each other if we get separated.
ellis101 Posted February 21, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 21, 2016 I don't mean to hijack the thread at all, but can anyone tell me if I can use a ship phone to call an iconcierge app?

Yes you can, also vice versa. The number is is just not as short as the regular onboard phonenumbers.
Seatbelt_Bag_LOVE Posted February 22, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) We purchased iconcierge app on the Escape in January. Interestingly enough, my phone received iMessages when I was hooked to the ship wifi for iconcierge & my phone was in airplane mode. I was able to text my friends back home. A loophole of some sort? I was able to text my friends back home. A loophole of some sort? Not a loophole per se, and does not happen regularly. iMessages are always delivered through Apple's server infrastructure and if for example access to iTunes store from the network is enabled for some reason (f.ex. iConcierge updates) then it is possible that iMessages get through also.
