We used them a lot on every cruise as as long as you not in one of the lower cabins they worked for the most part. However, that changed on our last cruise in May. While I had expected to use the radios, we the ended up using the hub app and it worked much better than I expected. In fact, I would go as far as saying nobody used FRS radios on the ship.

Someone mentioned about the legality of using them in port. Keep in mind just because you in international waters doesn't mean your legal. Sure you can get away with it, but legally you are required to follow rules of the country of register while in international waters. For most of Carnival's ships this is Panama. The exceptions are The Carnival Legend and Spirit are registered in Malta while the Triumph, Sunshine, Interspersion, Imagination, Fascination , and Sensation are registered in the Bahamas.

I have a group of people going and im worried we wont be able to find each other,so I was thinking walkie talkies? Can u bring them?

We did when we went with our Daughter and her family last year. We only had two, one adult had one and then when the Grandkids (12 and 8) went of on their own they stayed together and had one. Never had any issues.

Why dont you just make a meeting place, at a certain time each morning maybe, then discuss your plans for the day? Or every evening at a certain time for next day plans, that at least gives everyone a general idea of what the day will be like and where people are planning to be.

Just a side a note, anytime we are on a ship with people we know, we typically make plans to be in a certain area on sea days during the day. Through out the day our group sees each other periodically in that area, but we never have an issue seeing/finding people (sometimes we have a hard time LOSING certain people and we tend to keep running into them...;p).

Keep in mind that the walkie talkies will be annoying to others at times and intrude on their conversations or ability to hear (they are loud and the static is irritating when people are using them in a populated place), much like those that use the speakers on their phones in public (why???) and most people do not want to hear your private conversation. So be aware and courteous in public.

It really is not that hard to find people and most times you run into the same people on a ship throughout the week anyway. Not an issue...

There was no way to keep track of the kids and also allow them a little freedom otherwise. The hub app is much better than radios though.

For those kids that DO NOT have a phone on the ship (or parents for that matter), the children or teens can check in (face to face , yes face to face, can you imagine!) at certain times at pre-determined meeting places. Nothing wrong with actually seeing your kid in person through out the day, keeps them on their toes and keeps the parents in parenting mode (the ship is not a playpen ;p). Might actually be a good idea for some of the unsupervised kids we have encountered! Just saying....
