cajun_corgi Posted February 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2016 We want to take the Bavaria to Budapest cruise next summer on Viking. The question is whether there is an advantage/disadvantage to go from Nuremberg to Budapest, or from Budapest to Nuremberg. We wonder about the river speed, or winds or anything that may make one direction more pleasing than the other. Thanks
Bailey Swedishfish Posted February 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2016 We've done Budapest to Passau twice..east to west. Check to see what ports you visit in each direction--they may be different and that might determine which direction you'd like to go. I enjoy Bratislava, Vienna, Melk and Lina/Salzurg, but don't know if those stops are available when travelling eastbound.
nancyevans Posted February 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2016 How much time will you have in Nuremberg? How much time will you have in Budapest? We chose to start in Budapest since more time was included there and it is a much more interesting city that Nuremberg. However, if you are into WWII history, you may prefer Nuremberg. Also consider low water issues. Our ship made it from Budapest to Passau with no issues. The water was too low around Passau to Nuremberg so we had to be bussed to Regensberg for a day tour and then to Nuremberg when the cruise ended. How does Viking handle the low water bottle neck around Passau? By starting in Budapest we had less bussing than we would have had if we had started in Nuremberg.
