BUYING OBC, (On Board Credit)

Recommended Posts

Hi lovely fellow travellers!

Although I've got more than 90 cruise nights under my belt, reading CC makes me learn new things about cruising, daily!

So my question is- have many people pre purchased OBC with Royal Caribbean.

If yes- how did you go about it?

I've got a Voyager cruise in 4 weeks, then a Legend cruise in just over 6 weeks & I'm thinking, pre purchasing some OBC might be the way to go?!

Can you clever, experienced people please weigh in on this? (Including my fave poster, Mic Canberra, please!)

Hailey :-)

Just purchased some obc yesterday by phoning RCI. I chose the Amend my booking option but i think reservations will help too as once you speak to someone they will transfer you to the correct department.

Ask to buy OBC. They will give you the cost in AUD and the exchange rate. It will be very close to the mid market rates. I got 71 cents and the going rate is nearly 72. But that also includes any commission that you would otherwise pay at the bank or post office and msybe only get 69c.

So $200US should be roughly A$280 today.

They will send you a new invoice/receipt showing the OBC in USD.

This will become available to your onboard account by day 2 of your cruise. Unused obc bought this way is fully refundable whereas obc that comes with the booking fare is not.

To avoid further fees use a credit card that does nit atract currency conversion fees, eg 28 Degrees.
