kimtaein1 Posted March 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) I booked the cruise today for my parents (my dad will turn 60 later this year). I booked 'guranteed - balcony' category which means i have no idea what i will be getting, only that it will have some type of balcony. My wife also did some research and found this website and it had 'Cabin # 6203 Category 2D - Deluxe Ocean View Stateroom with Veranda (Obstructed View)' for $400 cheaper and $50 more credit and free insurance. (i don't know if it is ok to list the name of travel agent as i don't see in others' threads). This was with all the extra charges. I read that 6203 is right above smoking area and it has obstructed view. Should i cancel my first reservation (reservation states that i don't have to pay penalty if cancel 90+ days prior) and take 2D or should i go with what i have and hope for the best and possibly get better room (or worse)? QE2_Fan Posted March 16, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2016 You are right I that TA's can't be mentioned on CC threads! Sounds good, if they have such a deal hopefully it is available on more than just a single cabin? You may be able to choose an alternate cabin (hopefully away from the smoking if your parents are non smokers) or pay a little extra for a higher category even. With a guarantee you can be lucky and get a higher grade (we got a 1C balcony when we had a guarantee booking) or you could get a lead in 2D cabin if they have a lot left available. The extra perks way in also... Is Celebroty or the TA also not offering a free beverage package or gratuities as perks? Good luck, sure they will love Sosltice regardless! QE2_Fan Posted March 16, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 16, 2016 Ps. Obstructed view balcony cabins are mostly pretty good on Solstice - you are above the lifeboats so can still look 'out' but just not 'down' to the sea. You may get a Davit or some other minor obstruction but far from anything complete blocking your view! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
PartyAllDaTyme Posted March 16, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 16, 2016 Since QE2 Fan didn't happen to mention it, welcome to Cruise Critic! I suggest you join your cruise's roll call to chat with others that will be on the same cruise-- look for the link at the top of the page or click here.
