MB_Diver Posted October 19, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 19, 2005 Hey Mike (Nelson?) If your in Grand Cayman, will you report on the conditions when you get back. I'm particulary interested in the Oro Verde wreck site. Good luck with Wilma! Divin Dave
budaman Posted October 19, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 19, 2005 MB.......When we were there in April, we did a couple of dives in that area. The reefs there sustained some damage but were recovering well. Our first dive was at Little Tunnels and the second was to be on a wreck( I assume it was the Oro Verde) but there were too many boats already with divers in the water so we went to La Mesa. In our homepage, I have a quicktime movie(will take a few minues to load) I put together of those dives and it will give you an idea of the reef conditions in that area at least. We probably won't be making any West End dives on this trip since we will be staying on the East End & diving with Ocean Frontiers and they don't schedule trips there because of the distance involved. I will check with the shops & get a report though. We'll be back on the 29th and I'll post report & pics soon after. Keep your fingers crossed that Wilma goes right between Cozumel & GC and does little damage to either! MB_Diver Posted October 20, 2005 #7 Share Posted October 20, 2005 Hey Mike, Thanks for sharing your your photo's. I couldn't open the slide show, but did see the video. Is it your own video or one from the dive operator? Good Luck with Wilma! Divin Dave from Winnipeg
budaman Posted October 20, 2005 #8 Share Posted October 20, 2005 Thanks Dave....The dive operator took the video and I edited it and put music to it. It was my first effort. A camcorder & dive case will be my next investment. At $70 - 80 a pop, it doesn't take too much time to recoup your investment. looks like Wilma won't have much impact on GC. They've dropped the TS warning & Hurricane watch. Just hope the water clears by Sunday. Mike http://www.homepage.mac.com/csealove/

budaman Posted October 30, 2005 #12 Share Posted October 30, 2005 Afternoon All! Made it back from GC last night and even though the weather tried to get us, we had a successful dive trip. Used Ocean Frontiers and they are a first rate operation and were about the only ones that went out until late in the week. Between Wilma and Beta, it limited diving to the North side the first part of the week and the South & East the last part of the week. Stingray City trips were cancelled til Thursday. Should pick up pics from the dives and get them up on site later this week. Highlight was seeing my first shark in the water!
