cjonesatsource Posted October 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 20, 2005 Norwegian Jewel Nov/Dec 2005 Me again :-) I am still trying to get myself sorted with tours and the like and with this being my first cruise everything is a little daunting.. In Roatan I like the idea of the canopy tour as we wont have time to do it in jamaica but i was going to book it through the ship but at 109 USD thats rather alot so i liked someone idea of hiring scooters and finding the zip slides ourselves ? Any advice ? Grand Cayman we are interedted in going to stingray sandbar and seeing them - do i use sotoscruises or ncl excursion or someone else ? Also James was interedted in the seaworld and explorer semi sub tour if anyone has advice on this ? Jamaica - definately tubing, duinns river falls but james is also interested in the dolphin swim experience. Again Im not sure whether to book through the ship or through Peat Taylor or Phil Lafayette ? Again any comments welcomed. Finally does the ship charge for changing up travellers cheques ? And where do i buy rubber shoes to climb the falls and ..... do i have to buy and take my own snorkel gear or can i hire on ship and take with me on my scooter for ptivate island touring ?? Many Thanks in advance Christine
Sheffie Posted October 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 20, 2005 I can answer a few of your questions: We used Captain Bryan's Buccaneer and had a wonderful excursion. We wanted to go on a sailboat, and the time was perfect for us. http://caymanislandsdiscounts.com/Stingray_City_Buccaneer_Excursion.htm You can usually get water shoes at K-mart or that type of store. They are usually under $10. If you can't find those, or don't like them, Sears now sells Land's End and they have nice ones that are like tennis shoes. I don't know if Norwegian rents snorkel gear or not. We have our own snorkel gear. It wasn't very expensive, and this way we don't have to think about someone else's mouth having been on the snorkel. I don't believe any ship charges for cashing travelers' checks. Hope this helped!
captNcrunch Posted October 20, 2005 #3 Share Posted October 20, 2005 NCL used to havc a dive in program and rented the gear on the ship. No charge for cashing travelers checks you can do it at the pursars office or the casino. The only thing about going it alone on shore excursions .... know where you are going places like Jamaica can be a bit overwhelming! Most of the time the prices are within dollars of each other, plus the ship will wait for any shore excursion that is late, but if your are on your own .... you are on your own. Rubber shoes? Check Lands End my wife got a pair of Sea to Shore sport shoes and loves em!
