New York Hotel

I work across the street from the Carter Hotel. The neighborhood is perfectly safe and in a great location. It is a basic hotel popular with young Europeans. A co-worker had friends stay there. They had a room on a high floor with some nice views of Times Square. If you're looking for luxury, I don't recommend it. If you're looking for an economical place to crash after spending a day exploring the city, then by all means, book it.

Another option in the area is the Edison Hotel. I think it might be a little more expensive.

Hi Terrebul,

I live and work in the Midtown area. I'm not sure about the Carter. I always thought it was a little on the seedy side, although I have never actually been in the place.

The neigborhood is fine, but it's an old hotel. I agree with the other responder. I'd try the Edison or even the Milford Plaza before I'd book the Carter. There are some other small hotels along 8th Avenue in the 50's that have recently been renovated. One is a Hampton Inn (formerly HoJo) and another is a Hilton Garden Inn. I have no idea what their rates are, but it might be worth a look.
