Just an FYI, NCL is the only cruise line that has their casino's opened while in port in Bermuda and they pay the Bermudan gov't a LARGE fee to do so. Do not expect other cruise lines with minimal stops in Bermuda each year to follow suit.

The Celebrity Summit's casino is open also.

Yes, there is a large license fee for ships that make more than 15 calls per year. It runs from $75k to $180k depending on the number of passengers the ship carries. Ships calling fewer than 15 times also must pay a fee, but it runs from $5k to $12k.

Here is the actual law.

CRUISE SHIPS (CASINOS) ACT 2013

Bermuda is also beginning the process of licensing resort casinos on the island. It is still years away.

Thank you for the correction and explanation. I didn't realize that other cruise lines had decided to pony up the money. I know last year there were a number of threads complaining about the casino not being open on the CCL and RCCL threads.

nothing beats the convenience of docking in Hamilton. Oh well...

Except the adventure of going through Town Cut and docking in St. George's. EM

Yes, agreed! Did that once on Celebrity Zenith and in high winds. The pilot was amazed at captain Papanikolau's skills. "No one ever pulled that off before". :D

Just a heads up be prepared for altered itinerary if storms are around that week. We also had a Bermuda cruise scheduled last October and due to pending hurricane weather, our itinerary got rerouted to an eastern caribbean cruise instead. It turned out to be a wonderful cruise however we had to scramble to change all our plans for our 8-day cruise at the last minute. Lesson learned always be prepared for changes and have a good attitude to make the most out of your vacation.

Although I'm looking forward to another cruise to Bermuda, I'd be ok with an itinerary change to the Bahamas if it was necessary. I wouldn't enjoy getting re-routed to a Canada/NE itinerary, though, because the Oct 1 Bermuda cruise is the first leg of a back to back for us.....and the second leg is going to Canada!

Bermuda Tourism Info:

"Presently, there are no gambling casinos in Bermuda but there will be from late 2015 or 2016 when new hotels are built and others are refurbished. Cruise ship gambling casinos are no longer closed, as they had been for many years until October 2013. In that month, Bermuda's Members of Parliament changed the law, to allow them to remain open, after prolonged intensive lobbying from cruise ship lines who had pointed out that this restriction applied nowhere else in the cruise ship world. MPs enacted Bermuda's Cruise Ship (Casino) Act 2013. On-board casinos can now operate between 9pm and 5am, in return for a license fee per ship payable to the Bermuda Government. Cruise ships have to be in port for one night or more to qualify. The use of the casino is to be limited to passengers on board the ship only. No local residents or visitors to the ship will be allowed to participate in casino activities. Most cruise ships derive their on-board revenue mainly through their casinos and shops."

Thanks for posting the correct info! We were on Pride last October and we were docked with the Splendor. Both ships had the casino open for the duration of our stays in Bermuda. We were there for 24 hours, but Splendor was there a bit longer.
