clackey Posted May 11, 2006 #54 Share Posted May 11, 2006 I'm sorry, people, but I had to get in on this. There are so many good songs. You must have Buffett, Beach Boys, Bob Marley and some kind of Calypso music, anything with steel drums and a Jamaican accent. Then there is the drinking aspect of a cruise. Rum, Tequila and beer songs work well. Then there is that romance thing. Little grass skirts and island girls, with a tropical moon. Maybe a light sea breeze blowing in you hair, or where your hair used to be.:o If I had a 7 night cruise and had to break it down to 12 songs, I would have to arrange them in this order. Day 1: You are thinking about the adventures ahead, so it is Otis Redding and the classic "Settin on the Dock of the Bay", and possibly Styx with "Come Sail Away". Day 2: The excitement is growing but you still feel romantic. Maybe a little Christopher Cross and "Sailing" followed by the immortal Beach Boys and "Kokomo". Day 3: Now you are feeling a little bit rowdy, but still try to tone it down with Bobby Darin and the Carnival Song "Somewhere Beyond the Sea" and Fogerty's "Sea Cruise". Day 4: It is time to let loose. Yes, you guessed it. "Margaritaville" and after a few margaritas you break into "The Captain and Me' ", by the Doobie Brothers. Day 5: You are totally shot. There isn't an ounce of blood in your body that could freeze. Shelly West singing "Jose Cuervo" and "Tequila Sunrise" by the Eagles are in order. Day 6: Only one song sticks in your mind. Yep, your right. Bob Segars "Ship of Fools". Day 7: This only applies to the lucky people that sail out of Texas. Glen Campbell and, what else? "Galveston". This is only what I could come up with on short notice, but I am sure that you get the picture.

cruisinbuddy Posted January 30, 2007 #64 Share Posted January 30, 2007 I didn't read all the posts, but if it wasn't mentioned, you've got to get some Soca Boys some steel drums etc. Follow the Leader, Dollar Wine, etc. I did notice someone had mentioned the MOST IMPORTANT SONG OF ALL HOT HOT HOT, by Buster Poindexter, or a cover from another soca band. It's the first song on my, soon to be worn out cds.

sjb7259 Posted March 7, 2007 #66 Share Posted March 7, 2007 Hey all, This is a little off-topic-we are getting ready to sail on the Grandeur, leaving St. Patrick's Day.........2 years ago, I took the same cruise with my two daughters (we were onboard when it hit the dock in Costa Maya-longer trip!! :D ) Anyway, one of the best things about that cruise was the shipboard music....Does anyone know if these are CD's? I asked in the gift shop and they looked at me like I was crazy..........There is no music that reminds you of a great cruise like that which was looping through your head while you were poolside with a cold drink...Thanks for any info you can offer........ CruiserByChoice Posted March 8, 2007 #67 Share Posted March 8, 2007 Along with Red Red Wine there is the great Jamaican song : HOT HOT HOT Also have you heard Jack Johnsons music..... sort of like a younger Jimmy Buffet. Hot, Hot, Hot is not Jamacian; that soca classic was written and performed by the innovative singer Arrow who is from Montserrat. Arrow has also recorded a string of CDs including Knock Dem Dead (1988), O'La Soca (1989) and Soca Dance Party (1990).

Charmedone619 Posted March 9, 2007 #70 Share Posted March 9, 2007 When I was on the Crown Princess out of New York they played a medley of New York themed songs like New York, New York and On Broadway which was nice to sailaway to watching the skyline slowly get smaller. Agilitydog Posted March 9, 2007 #71 Share Posted March 9, 2007 Some great song choices here, I'm taking notes. My pick would be "Captain Kidd" by Great Big Sea because every Cruise mix needs at least one pirate song! Can't go wrong with any GBS song since 99% of them are about sex, boats, or drinking! Twelvevman Posted March 9, 2007 #72 Share Posted March 9, 2007 Southern Cross - Stephen Stills Morris' Nightmare - Jimmy Buffett Sloop John B - Beach Boys And if you want to truly enjoy Buffett on the cruise go for the early stuff. When the Coast Is Clear Last Mango in Paris - Anytime you are heading into the Keys Trying to Reason With Hurricane Season - Island Son of a Son of a Sailor God's Own Drunk - We have all had these mornings :D and if you did you can follow up with My Head Hurts' My Feet Stink and I Don't Love Jesus Nautical Wheelers and bring it on home with Lovely Cruise Just my opinion Jeff Proud member of C.O.B.O. Kanukkacruise Posted March 9, 2007 #73 Share Posted March 9, 2007 I think one of Jimmy Buffet's greatest songs is "Jolly Mon Sing." I rank it right up there with his smash hits like "Come Monday," etc. It's a great addition to a cruise complilation.
