mutiger Posted October 28, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2005 I read in the cruise critic review that QM2 cabins come with ash trays and rooms smell of smoke. This is quite disturbing and would prevent me from ever sailing on the QM2. I don't get why cruise lines don't have non-smoking rooms. It's so unfair that somebody else's terrible life-killing habit has to ruin mine or someone else's vacation. Can anybody confirm/deny that cigarette smoke is a problem on the QM2? thanks! Paul NH Posted October 28, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 28, 2005 It is probably a hit-or-miss sort of thing, depending on the total amount of smokers that have occupied a given cabin, and also how recently the last smoker was there before you. As an individual sample point, we did not smell even a hint of smoke in our outside cabin in June. Paul

naked on the balcony Posted October 28, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 28, 2005 I was on back to back crossings this summer, and never noticed a cigarette smell in our cabin. I think the furnishings are probably too new to have absorbed much stale cigarette odor; plus the cabin attendants really do a thorough job of cleaning. However...the casino seems to have little ventilation and stinks of cigarettes, (I curtailed my gambling as a direct result of smoke). I've always wondered if people who smoke know how much they stink; there's about a three foot trail of putrid death that surrounds and follows them around. In any case, I wouldn't worry about the cabins smelling, if yours happened to be an exception, I bet they might upgrade you for the inconvenience...well maybe not. tree29 Posted October 28, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 28, 2005 Only place I noticed the smoke was the pub. My cabin smelt of nothing other than fresh sea air. I really wouldn't worry about this.
guernseyguy Posted October 29, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 29, 2005 I am similarly quick to spot cigarette smoke smells and found none in our cabin. As others have mentioned, the only really 'smokey' venue was the Golden Lion Pub - the smokers appear to congregate (or should that be fumigate?) there..... mufi Posted October 29, 2005 #7 Share Posted October 29, 2005 I think that if you have a cabin with an interconnecting door you could have smoke from next door. We had this once on QE2 and the smell was quite strong at times. Another time when we first came in to our cabin the smell hit us as we opened the door. We complained at the pursers and the very efficient deck houskeeper came before dinner and said they had a device that would clear the cabin while we were at dinner. When we got back it was perfect. dtwtraveler Posted October 29, 2005 #8 Share Posted October 29, 2005 A few people responded that their staterooms were cleansed with fresh air when their balcony doors were opened to the sea air. I think that this would guarantee an odorless room.
