Hotel in San Diego

I am debating about staying in one of two hotels in San Diego, either the Holiday Inn on the Bay in a bayview room, or the Marriott Gaslamp Village in a waterview room. We will be staying for 3 nights and are renting a car. Anyone have any opinions. Thanks.

The Marriott. One of my coworkers stayed there when he came to town a couple weeks ago and raved about it. Marriott took it over from some other chain and did a big remodel, so everything looks new. It's one block from 5th Ave which has tons of restaurants. (Being next to the ballpark might be positive or negative depending on when you're coming and how you feel about baseball, crowds, noise.)

Think carefully about whether you need a rental car though. Parking down there is ridiculously expensive. If you just need it for a day, maybe you can rent and return on the same day.
