Doggielover68 Posted November 10, 2016 #5 Share Posted November 10, 2016 Taxi rates and lots of other information is available on the Amber cove website http://www.ambercove.com/port-information/taxi-information.aspx Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
Skipper's Mom Posted December 15, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 15, 2016 The cabs are regulated by the dispatcher inside Amber Cove. Frankly, I would stay at Amber Cove. There's not much to see in Puerto Plata and they take you to the rum factory, amber museum (sales pitch), central square to see church. Lots of pot holes, traffic, etc. Not scenic. Our friends stayed at Amber Cove and thoroughly enjoyed the day. We, on the other hand, did not.
Gladysgoing Posted December 18, 2016 #7 Share Posted December 18, 2016 I would stay at Amber Cove. I rarely suggest to people to stay at a cruise center. I'm all for exploring new places. Puerto Plata has little to offer. We didn't enjoy it that much. We cut our taxi tour short and came back to enjoy Amber Cove.
lovevacadays Posted December 19, 2016 #8 Share Posted December 19, 2016 4 of us did a taxi tour. We got the taxi right in the Amber Cove Center. The prices are governed. It was $70.00 to and back and for a tour that could have lasted the duration of the day if we chose so 17.50 a piece thank goodness since we didn't enjoy it that much. We only stayed in town for about 2-3 hours tops. We weren't that crazy about Puerto Plaza. It was dirty, not pretty, and the guide wanted to take us to mainly shopping places for kickback. We had to tell him several times we didn't want to shop. However, Amber Cove itself is really pretty. The hillsides are lush and green. The pool area is great with a swim up bar. There is a couple of restaurants and a coffee shop. We were on the Regal Princess. They had the aft of the ship facing the mountains and it was a pretty view from there as well. The bungalows at Amber Cove looked great so if you want to treat yourself I'm thinking this is a place to do it. Very nice cruise center
