I am flying out Oct 8 and suppose to land Oct 9 at 9:15 am. American Airlines has not yet cancelled flight and told me to call Oct 7. Does anyone think I have a chance to make the cruise? If flight is cancelled...I guess we will miss Greece and fly to Rhodes. So sad!

Rhodes won't work. All Greek airports will be on strike.

Saw someone posted this on book face

Well, things seem to be looking up (again). On one of our FB groups for this cruise, we have a member who has been a flight attendant on international flights and has flown during Greek ATC strikes in the past. According to her, direct international flights from the U.S. shouldn't be affected. She said if your flight has no connecting stops in Europe, it will go through normally during the strike. Might have dodged another bullet.

Your air mileage may vary.

I emailed the Athens Airport inquiring whether International Flights directly from Canada or the USA would be affected and received this reply:

Regarding your inquiry, kindly be advised that as per official Aeronautical notice we have received by Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, Greek Air Traffic Controllers’ Association will be on 24hour strikes on October 09, 10, 12 & 13, 2016, so no flights will operate from/to Athens International Airport.

For further information, please contact the airline you are travelling with

American Airlines just called us and said all flight to Greece has been cancelled. The next flight that they can book us on will be Oct. 11 but can be again cancelled due to the strike. Airlines and Cruises are swamped with calls due to the hurricane. We were suppose to fly out of Philadelphia. Not sure what to do!! We are on hold with Carnival right now and so far the cruise is still scheduled to depart on time.

Possible good news on the strike by the Greek Air Traffic Controllers. News site skai.gr is reporting that there were good discussions with the Transport Minister today and they will recommend to the board to suspend the strike action.

I haven't seen anything else yet to support this but here's hoping it is true and that the board and/or members accept that recommendation.

We are currently in Athens. Our bags are having more of an adventure than us. My bag arrived on a flight later about midnight. My husbands bag is still in London. With the strike not happening it has messed up all flights. So we are still waiting on his bag to make it to Athens.
