Alibobs Posted October 9, 2016 #26 Share Posted October 9, 2016 Looks like I started something here. For the record I don't pay for internet packages on board due to Platinum status - but I like to think of others !. The point of my message was - it's a funny old World....... Well your original comment made me smile Dajo.....as did Peppers comment about the food/alcohol pub/ restaurant combo.... It is a funny old world
pepperrn Posted October 9, 2016 #27 Share Posted October 9, 2016 Now what really would be good was if the gold, platinum and diamond pins were actually made of gold, platinum and diamond as opposed to plastic ! Now that would be a perk worth having :DYou mean that little shiny dot in the middle of my Diamond Pin... isn't a real Diamond? :( All that money I've spent over ten years to get that cheap little pin... I thought "at least I can get that Diamond off the pin and recoup some of the money... " There goes my retirement plan... ;)

Wordzz Posted October 9, 2016 #31 Share Posted October 9, 2016 I'm probably in a minority, but for me one of the joys of cruising, and especially of a Transatlantic, is that I am freed from constantly having to check my phone, my emails, the news, etc. Sheer bliss for me. Just like being on holiday used to be.
balf Posted October 9, 2016 #32 Share Posted October 9, 2016 I have checked on the price of docking fees charged to cruise lines at major ports such a Stockholm,Cayman I,and New Zealand and it appears to average around $30/40,000 per day for something as big as the Queen Victoria. Most fees are based on tonnage, length, number of passengers or a combination,so larger ships will pay even more.I just do not believe it would be uneconomic for a cruise line to arrange wifi in each port even if they have to have an ISP contract in each country and run a network connection to each ship. They already run connections for other services on arriving at each port. What would be the point when the OPs coffee shop, or in many ports the cruise terminal is near buy. David.
Merry Maid Posted October 11, 2016 #33 Share Posted October 11, 2016 When in the merchant navy many years ago, one of the first things to come aboard when in port was a telephone line. Don't know 'owt about ISP contracts though. MM
