akia29 Posted November 9, 2005 #26 Share Posted November 9, 2005 DLH, Our trip is also booked as a complete surprise for my best friend..I guess there will be lots of happy people on this cruise! We're taking the Amtrak from Rhinecliff to Penn Station. I feel a little nervous since I usuaully go to Grand Central and somewhat know my way around there. We've never been to Penn...but it seems close to the port so that's good. Maybe there won't be a tremendous amount of people there early since it's a work day...and we'll luck out with our early embarkation. To everyone who is going on 11/18..Have a great evening! Penn Station is much closer to the port and it will be a cheaper cab ride too since its already on the west side. You want to exit on 8th Avenue, there is a taxi stand right in rear of Madison Square Garden, Traffic goes up on 8th so you can catch a taxi with ease to the port. Or you can catch the A train to 42nd street and walk from there depending on how much luggage you've got
MarkMark Posted November 13, 2005 #27 Share Posted November 13, 2005 Just booked the one nighter. Wife has no clue, thinks we are going to have lunch in the city!! This will be a preview for a 7 nite cruise we have planned with the kids in April 2006 on Jewel. Different ship, but still get a taste of the cruising experience (and no kids this time either). For the price its a great deal. 3 meals, entertainment and lodging for under $400. Its definitely worth it. Hoping for warm and sunny weather:)
CatskillsMom Posted November 13, 2005 Author #28 Share Posted November 13, 2005 Akia29-Thanks for the info, I will definitely use it since I'm NYC 'dumb'. Markmark, Great gift! Have fun! We're also using it as an 'investigative' cruise. This will be our first on any ship. I just presented a scrapbook of events to my friend for her birthday last night...she was very surprised and very excited about our 'girls night out' on the Spirit. We can't wait to board... 5 days to go:D
naragonl Posted November 13, 2005 #29 Share Posted November 13, 2005 Are passports required on the 1 night dinner/dance cruise  I think the answer is no, but thought I'd ask
CatskillsMom Posted November 13, 2005 Author #30 Share Posted November 13, 2005 I asked when I booked it and they said a drivers license and a birth certificate would be fine.
kingtns Posted November 14, 2005 #31 Share Posted November 14, 2005 Have a great time everyone!! Wonder if the ship sold out? This is the 1st time ever away from my hubby & kids, serious girls night out!! Hope this will hold me off until our cruise in June on the new Princess Crown out of NY! BTW...what's everyone wearing?? Take care, Susan
CatskillsMom Posted November 14, 2005 Author #32 Share Posted November 14, 2005 First time EVER away? I'm assuming your kids are young...and yes, you deserve it! Good for you. We're going to start out comfortable for the day time...jeans, nice sweater, etc. We plan on bringing a casual-dressy outfit for the evening. Nothing to formal or overly dressy for us, we want to have fun, not be worried about 'sucking it in' or wrinkling our skirts all night....lol! I was also wondering what everyone else would be wearing. There will probably be quite a mix of 'fashion' going on. After all, it's New yAWk.;)
kingtns Posted November 14, 2005 #33 Share Posted November 14, 2005 Yes...1st time away...my kids are 15, 13 and 6. I can't believe it myself! I will probably head up in jeans also & wear something as if I were going out to a nice restaurunt Saturday night. Countdown is on!!!
Maryfrei Posted November 14, 2005 #34 Share Posted November 14, 2005 Ditto on the clothes. Comfort is really important to me! I'm so excited about Friday, hope we all have a wonderful time. Mary
CatskillsMom Posted November 14, 2005 Author #35 Share Posted November 14, 2005 Either way, dress accordingly...it looks like the highs are only in the 40's for Friday and Saturday. Should be awesome out on the deck as we pass by The Statue of Liberty even if we're freezing our butts off...
DLH Posted November 14, 2005 #36 Share Posted November 14, 2005 You would think it was a 7 night cruise! I must REALLY need a break. CatskillsMom - You won't believe this but my wife and I (she still doesn't know) will be walking through mid-town Manhatten to get to the port! We walk 3 miles every morning so it is not a big deal. The only thing we will carry is an overnight bag. Here is my itinerary: 12:00 Noon Lunch 1:00 PM A few cocktails as I explore the ship. 3:00 PM nap 4:30 PM Muster Drill 5:00 PM Pre-dinner cocktails 6:00 PM Dinner 7:30 PM Show 9:00 PM begin to party/continued cocktails 10:00 PM Karaoke 11:30 PM Disco 1:30 - 2:00 AM snack That's about all I can handle! 4 days to go! Make sure you are flexible with that itinerary.:) Check the Freestyle Daily when you board. A great thing to do over lunch. One the Dawn Karaoke was from 7:45 until 9:00 pm. Dinner at 6 may be tight to make a 7:30 show. The good news the show times on the Dawn were 8 & 10 PM
kingtns Posted November 14, 2005 #38 Share Posted November 14, 2005 DLH...are you serious, we have to do the muster drill?? Also, great plan for the day & night but I didn't hear the Casino mentioned at all!! I will do all the above except napping!!! I just called my sister screaming it's only 4 days away, we do that while our hubby's are out (we don't want them to know how exciting it will to be to cruise without them) LOL
electricron Posted November 14, 2005 #39 Share Posted November 14, 2005 DLH...are you serious, we have to do the muster drill? Yes, everytime a cruise ship at least leaves the embarkation harbor, a muster drill is required.

Nickymjw1 Posted November 15, 2005 #42 Share Posted November 15, 2005 You will probably find DLH at the pool bar drinking a Bahama Mama at the Bon Voyage party. Trust me..;) Hey D, long time no speak. It's Nicky & Doug from the Majesty Cruise! See you can't wait to cruise again. Neither can I, I am going on the Carnival Celebration from Jacksonville on Sat 11/19/05. Doug can't go, so I am taking Josh, yes...the 18 yr old that drives us crazy! But I needed someone to carry my suitcase right? Joe e-mailed me yesterday and he just got back from a cruise. He told me he saw you on this board. Guys, you will have fun with this guy, and don't let him fool you,..he loves Kareoke! :D Have a safe and fun trip! DLH Posted November 15, 2005 #43 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Nicky, great to hear from you!!! I miss you guys! Yea, it's too bad that the weather will be too cold to hang out at the pool bar, because you are right, that's where I would be! I got an e-mail from Joe too, we will do lunch soon. have fun on your cruise in a few days. After this one day I will be on the NCL Jewel out of Miami 1/15/06. You and Doug should come and join the party!!!! Long live the PBGWC!!!!!!
Nickymjw1 Posted November 16, 2005 #44 Share Posted November 16, 2005 Wish we could join your Derek. But I will start a new job next week, so I am sure I won't be able to take vacation that soon. It would have been great though, because that is right before my B-day (1/18). How many days is the cruise, and where are you going? Never know,..I might hit that $300million Powerball jackpot, and won't have to worry about work anymore:D You have fun also!
