Travel Insurance?

Do you have any health issues? Many companies have preexisting conditions and may look back 60 days from the day you pay for the insurance and to waive those pre existing conditions some may require you buy the insurance within a certain time period from the booking date. Read the fine print. I have seen the price increase closer to the travel date. What company are you looking at?

Thanks for the response. No health issues. And we haven't contacted anyone for insurance yet, just looking at the lists of companies available.

I forgot to mention that if anything happens to you before the trip and you develop problems on your trip(Same problem) you may have trouble getting a payment of the claim. It is very important to buy the insurance in full when you book the trip. check out https://www.insuremytrip.com/

There is a lot of information on types of plans and coverage options.

Thanks again for your response. We have decided to go ahead and set it up. The only reason we were holding off is because once before we had to cancel a trip and would have lost the insurance money. Instead we are vouchered through that particular agent so locked into using his offerings to use that money. We didn't cancel because of health.

We have been surprised to see the travel insurance price from the same company and same level raising the closer we get to our TA cruise. We wanted to wait till just before final payment. Is this a normal thing to happen? Thanks!:)

Of course they will go up.

Yes, that is normal. There are insurance companies that cover pre-existing condition before final payment, and not within 14 or 21 days of first deposit payment.

Using Celebrity CruiseCare policy price 1) is not age-sensitive price 2) allows partial future credit if cancel for any reason 3) is secondary coverage to your own health ins.

Have always taken CruiseCare and had ok treatment with a couple claims.

GOOD LUCK

What are your needs from cruise insurance?

1. If you are not interested in the trip cancellation coverages--nothing is going to stop you from going on your cruise, then you can insure $0 trip cost. Sounds like you may have already made final payment of your cruise--travel insurance companies require purchase of policies with trip cancellation at time of final payment so they can insure. Cruise lines will let you buy up to departure time.

2. The pricing should reduce as you get closer to departure because the coverage window becomes smaller. but check the pre-existing medical clauses. I dont know how insurance companies booking engines work but Csa's pricing is dynamic and goes down as closer to departure. https://www.csatravelprotection.com/getquote_wd.do

Also had a good experience with CruiseCare. DW had a detached retina and we had to leave ship in Athens. Insurance refunded unused part of cruise and airfare from Athens to NYC. X contacted us after we got home and walked us thru the claim process. We were VERY satisfied with X and CrusieCare.

They probably have had more loss experience with people the later they wait to apply. They also get reduced investment income from your premium dollars.
