I went through Verizon's international planner on line, and the pay as you go was recommended for our needs. We did use Travel Pass for Mexico, which is a good deal at $2 for 24 hours, and only activates if you actually use it. Thanks for posting! I'm hoping to use my phone zero on this trip, but you never know!

If anyone has T-Mobile, they have free texting and data in over 120 countries, and phone calls are 20 cents per minute. Love this service - we used it on our 49 day cruise around South America with no problems.

We have also used our T-Mobile in Europe and Asia. To be sure however that there will be no charges, we first check in port the text message from T-Mobile to confirm the free text message and $0.20/min phone call.
