Electrical converter needed?

This is according to Lonley Planet:

Electric current is generally 220v, 60Hz, although some delux hotels may have 110V supply for electric razors. Sockets are French-Style, requiring a plug with two round pins.

Hopefully if this is not accurate someone else will correct this info. I was thinking of taking my own blowdryer, and I no longer have my converter kit. It blew up an outlet in Paris a few years ago, and I never replaced it. It was very embarrassing.

I'm bringing just an adapter for my Palm and camera battery charger for the hotel portion. Both things say they are dual voltage so all I need is the adapter. I found a cool website that will tell you which one to bring - I'm bringing the Australian and European one. But if you have something like a blow dryer, then you need the converter.

From the research I have done for my London trip and upcoming FP trip, you will need only a plug adapter for your battery chargers (assuming they are dual voltage). If you look at the label on your battery charger it will probably say 110/220 or something like that. In that case you need only an adapter. If it is not dual you will need the converter as well as the adapter.

Hair appliances are quite different. Most of the time, the ones we buy in the States are not dual voltage. You can buy them dual voltage but they are more expensive. Most of the time you would need the converter and adapter for the hair appliances. But look at the tag/lable on the appliances and see if it is dual voltage, i.e. 110/220 or something like that. Then you don't need the converter but still need the adapter.

I have found you always need the adapter but only need the converter/transformer if the thing you are plugging in is not dual voltage.

Now that I'm back I can report that the two hotels we stayed at in FP (Sheraton Tahiti and Sheraton Moorea) both had American 110v plugs. I didn't need an adapter at all for my camera or Palm charger. They still also had the 220v plugs for European electronics. It was nice to know they had both available.
