Luggage Question

We will be sailing on the Zenith in Jan. -- Since it is a 5 day cruise I will not be packing a lot. This is our first time on Celebrity and I wonder if it okay to carry on our own luggage? We will each have a 22" wheeled carryon and a small tote. Would really like to skip the luggage "thing" and do it ourselves.

Same with us on two two nighters. Fast off the plane and onto the ship and off the ship. I've not done it before but am going to for those two cruises. I've read other people speak about it and say they are able to leave the ship at any time because of it, and no searching for luggage when you get off. First to the taxis.

We have only been on two previous cruises, both with Celebrity, and have wheeled our own luggage each time.

 

Have learned over the years that too much luggage and "stuff" can weigh us down (literally and figuratively) and we now tend to pack lightly. We never take anything thinking "maybe" it might come in handy. Only items we "know" we need get packed. (Will anyone even notice that I am wearing the same black sequined heels on the second formal night? Or, that I usually wear white pants, because two pairs of them will see you through almost everything?)

There is one thing to consider before trying to take your checked baggage on board with you. All carry on bags are processed through the xray scanner as you move from the terminal to the gang way for boarding. If your checked bags cannot go through the scanner, they will set them aside and they will go aboard with the rest of the checked baggage. The scanners we have seen are the same type as you see at the airports, so if your bags go through the airport scanners they should be ok.

Thanks. I think so. They are the rollaboard type and fit into the plane's overhead. So, I think we will be okay.

When we were checking in for Mercury last month a pier-side "pointer in the right direction person" saw that we just had little roll-aboards and told us that we could just go straight to people-check-in and could take our bags with us.

Nope, Seattle. I guess because we weren't trying to schelp big bags that would bang up the walls or run over other people's feet they were fine with it.

 

Personally, I hate carrying my bags of any size on board, but my husband hates giving his stuff over to a porter or a bellman (even in the best of hotels). So, when they said we could just bring our own stuff on, he was all for it.
