Are there any issues getting to the port early to avoid all of the Mardi Gras parades and such? We can sit in our car for hours if we need to. We cancelled the bad weather cruise last month and are getting on this time if it kills us. Thanks in advance.

Are there any issues getting to the port early to avoid all of the Mardi Gras parades and such? We can sit in our car for hours if we need to. We cancelled the bad weather cruise last month and are getting on this time if it kills us. Thanks in advance.

 

 

First parade rolls at noon and will roll back to back all day long. Last parade starts at 6pm. If you go to the port on I-10 headed east and get off at Canal St. you'll be right at the terminal and shouldn't have a problem if you get there early (10 or 10:30ish). The terminal is right downtown within blocks of the parade routes, so avoid surface streets. People will already be heading downtown to get their favorite parking spots and stake out their parade real estate, so it will be getting busy about that time. If you get there too late and have to park in the overflow lot at the Civic Center, it might be a real cluster because you'll be right in the middle of madhouse central.
