musiccity2008 Posted February 24, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2017 Question for those who have experienced the port area and beyond exploring on your own--In some ports we've been to (Jamaica comes to mind) we've sometimes felt overwhelmed by the number of people constantly approaching to braid hair, sell items, etc. How is Cuba in this regard? VidaNaPraia Posted February 25, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2017 There are people who live on commissions from bringing you the tourist to a certain shop, restaurant, or B&B. And there are "working" women. The term is jinetero or jinetera. Learn to say a firm "NO" and keep walking. They usually do not persist to an extreme point. As far as people selling items/souvenirs, I did not find that happening, even at the beach.
Susie51 Posted March 14, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 14, 2017 How safe is Cuba for two women in their late 20s to walk around the tourist areas?
nansi Posted March 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 15, 2017 No problem....just use common sense as you would anywhere else. If you hire a bicycle taxi, he'll be your guide and escort everywhere. Great way to see the city sights! The Cuban people are very friendly and helpful.
VidaNaPraia Posted March 15, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 15, 2017 Cuba is one of the safest places I've ever been. Was there solo (female). No problems walking alone even late at night in Havana.
