guernseyguy Posted November 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2005 See here: http://*****.com/b4esw Sorry, I don't get this, Tom Cruise's contribution to British Cinema? Why not focus on a real star like Elizabeth Taylor....who has actually travelled on Cunard, and was honoured at the event: http://*****.com/8bbqy Peter
highcbob Posted November 15, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Peter: Mr.Cruise has become so unpopular here in the U.S. I would consider him ( and his recent antics ) well on his way to 'box office poison'. However, I think it very smart of Cunard to partner up with BAFTA/LA ...VERY smart.
Linerguy Posted November 15, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2005 He's probably glad to be getting the attention,...Lord knows his films don't.
guernseyguy Posted November 15, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Highcbob/Linerguy, I agree with both your analyses - tie up with BAFTA/LA is smart, especially given arrival of QM2 in LA next year, and Tom Cruise antics have reached this side of the pond - my interpretation too was that he was grateful for any favourable publicity (hence slumming with the Brits). My quarrel is with the dunderheads in Valencia who would rather celebrate HIS appearance, rather than that of one of the last great stars of the Golden Age, Elizabeth Taylor - she rarely ventures out these days - and is in no need of favourable publicity. The genuine article. Peter
