Just booked my 5th cruise with Royal Caribbean! This is a birthday present from my husband. I've been on the Majesty, Monarch, Serenade and Enchantment. This is the first time on a Voyager class ship. Have a long wait till January 07'. Anything interesting you can tell me about this ship let me know.

Congrats on your booking! I'm sailing on the Adventure in 75 days ( but who's counting! ) We have only ever sailed on Radiance class so we are really looking forward to the larger ship. What itinerary are you sailing?

I have been doing some research, mainly by reading reviews - and the vast majority are very positive about the AOS.

What cabin have you booked?

I have never been on the AOS, but I have been on the Explorer of the Seas which is a Voyager Class ship so they should be pretty much identical.

SHIP:

The sheer size of the ship is magnificent. Almost makes you feel somehow better than those on the little 100 ton ships ported next to you :p j/k. It is definitely cool seeing the difference in size at port though.

FOOD:

The food leaves something to be desired which has been the main complaint on the Voyager Class ships. It's not terrible by any means just mediocre. The meat in the main dining is usually very good. There is a Johnny Rockets on the AOS and if you like burgers you must check it out. Kinda funny, but probably one of the best cheeseburgers I have ever had and it's all you can eat. There is a cover charge for it though, around $4. You do have to pay extra for desert type items and also for their malts and shakes which I must say you should also try, very tasty. :p I never did get to check out their specialty restaurants but from what I hear they too are fantastic. The Windjammer Cafe is where we most of our breakfasts besides when we got room service. It has a large variety of things to choose from. From your normal buffet type items to made to order eggs, pancakes, waffles, omelets and so on. IMHO opinion one of the best buffets I've ever seen. Also, there is another area of the Windjammer farther to the back from the entrance. Most ppl never make it back there, or don't know it's there so the lines are in general considerably shorter and I'm pretty sure this is where you get the made to order to items.

ENTERTAINMENT:

There is something for everyone on these ships. Obviously one of the main attractions is the Royal Promenade. Descent shopping, a few bars and cafes, and a fun decor. This where the parade happens and it is open 24 hrs. If you have kids there is a ton of stuff for them to do. There is even a parade through the dining room that they do all dressed up which would be fun for the kids I suppose. Haven't ever taken kids with me on a cruise, but from what I've seen RCI definitely takes care of them. The shows in the theater are generally pretty good. The comedy acts are some of the better ones. The casino is a fun place to go if you like to just hang out for a bit a do something different, not very large and not all that exciting, but still fun to do at least once. The Ice show from what I hear is the best show on the ship. Haven't seen so can't say from personal experience. If you like art the art auction's, IMHO, are always fun. I enjoy art quite a bit and you can in general find unbeatable deals on great pieces. Also you get free champagne. :p Another stop I usually make is in the theatre for a little bingo on a Day At Sea. Obviously not thrilling but usually the jackpots get up there. The Midnight Buffet is in one word, fantastic. The creative minds of the staff that create these things really show here. Some may not do it on every cruise because it is quite often the same things, but a must see if you have never seen it before.

LOOK AND FEEL:

The ship is large and therefore has a large capacity but you never feel crammed. It is layed out quite well, spreading the activities out on the ship keep you from being on top of one another on those days at sea. The Voyager was in great shape and everything was very well cleaned and taken care of, since the Adventurer is one year newer I would assume it would also be the same. Like the rest of the RCI line there is a ton of art all over the ship. Some very elegant and others that are fun. My wife and I stayed in a Cat L inside stateroom. Like most inside staterooms not large by any means but it served it purpose well.

Even though it's not the ship you're going on it will give you a good idea of what to expect. I hope this is useful.

The itinerary we are doing is to Aruba. We've been to the other islands before our cruise on the Serenade but the weather was rainy so we didnt get to enjoy them much.

We are staying on Deck 7 Balcony. This is our first time on a balcony cabin. We usually stay on Deck 3 low down because I do have a tendency to get seasick and the lower you go the less rocking you tend to feel. I hope being up so high I won't feel the motion more. I tried to get Deck 6 but it was all booked already.
