Sprint Open World - a cell service (Cozumel, Belize, Roatan)

We are cruising to Cozumel, Belize, and Roatan in June. Our cell phone carrier is Sprint, which offers the Open World plan. We have used this before while taking land vacations to Cabo. Does anyone have experience with their cell coverage when in port or on the ship?We would like to call home a couple times during our 7 day cruise to check on the kids and most importantly the dog. TIA

When the ship is docked their cell tower will be off so once you are on land you will connect to the local towers. I randomly received a call in Honduras from a local number, I did not answer, it was odd though. We didn't have any issues in Cozumel or Honduras last summer with Sprint. Data was pretty slow, but a quick phone call shouldn't be a problem.
