Which is the best place to take a helicoptor on the Big Island or Kauai? When you do the helicoptor trip on the Big Island do you see where the lava goes into the ocean? Also when you leave Hilo do you see the lava going into the ocean? Please help us decide.

It's impossible to tell if you will see lava on any particular day. In many cases the lava flows through tubes and is not visible on the surface. If it reaches the ocean you are likely to see steam clouds during the day and red lava might only be visible at night so you might take a helicopter ride and not see much of anything on the day you go. There is no way to predict how much activity there will be and if that activity will be above gorund or below ground. On Kauai however, the copters usually fly you over the cliffs of the Napali coast on the west side of the island and through Waimea Canyon. Your only concern is that it will be sunny for the best view. An alternative would be to take the helicopter on the big island and take a boat ride to the Napali coast on Kuaui.
