MotherofTrips Posted May 24, 2017 Author #26 Share Posted May 24, 2017 That's odd. Typically when the ship is in port the shipboard cell phone service is turned off. Maybe but it wasn't on the dates we sailed [emoji30]. We had @$100 in extra charges from that too. And I paid the $10 per phone per day (x4) for that travel plan in Bermuda. MotherofTrips Posted May 24, 2017 Author #27 Share Posted May 24, 2017 Did you talk to Verizon to see if you could change your plan in arrears if that was cheaper. Many people do not understand that data and calling are different as it is all on the phone. But phones today are computers that make calls not phones that can use data. I usually try to go to a store to have them show me how to set up my phone and I also do not allow my apps to update automatically sometimes the updates are buggy and can cause issues. I called Verizon and after explaining my situation they took 50% of the charges off. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Sissaaaaaa Posted May 24, 2017 #28 Share Posted May 24, 2017 You were told wrong if someone said you could make calls while in airplane mode. There is NO WAY your phone can make any kind of phone call or text while in airplane mode. It can only communicate through wifi (internet) and then you would need a special app to send messages( like Facebook). You could also make FaceTime phone calls, but never could you make a regular phone call with your phone in airplane mode. Just not possible. Sure you can. I have made plenty of calls and texts over wifi. I have Verizon and have never had a charge or a problem.
mauitiki Posted May 24, 2017 #29 Share Posted May 24, 2017 That's odd. My "current international plan"...."Includes Mexico & Canada with your domestic plan"...so no extra costs for me. I don't have an International Plan. I did once and I think it was $30 for the month. But then Verizon came out with the "Travel Pass" which included Mexico & Canada at $2.00 a day. It was still that rate right up until my cruise last month. When we arrived in Mexico, Verizon sent a text saying the cost was now $5.00/day. In Belize & Roatan it as still $10/day. I never had International included with my domestic plan. Hmmm, is this something new?
