pre-cruise mia help

We are cruising out of Miami 1/21/06 but we fly in on the 19th. There are two families 8 people total. We had thought of renting a car and driving to the keys but we are not finding one big enough that we can afford. Plus i was advised that wemay miss our ship cuz traffic could get bad.So now we think we will just find a hotel in maimi maybe rent a car and check out the towm any suggestions for us. We have 4 kids with all boys ages 12-10-5-2. Thanks in advance.
