Time to make tour of Alcatraz question

Recommended Posts

This is a little off topic, but Alcatraz tickets do sell out. I'd look into buying ahead.

Important note, access to Alcatraz is free. It's the ferry to get there that you pay for. No, you can't take your own boat. Sorta Catch 22.

We did the night tour of Alcatraz (very cool!) and bought the tickets ahead of time on our own. Everyone wore headphones with the tour recorded on it so we could go at our own pace. At a certain point we met up with one of the guides and he told us other stories and showed us a couple of other things not covered on the tape.

This is very much something you can do on your own. And it's very close to the cruise terminal.

Our first time in SF we also did the hoho tour (there was a place to buy tickets near Pier 39 I think). The second time we went with the Real SF Tours. We took the all day tour (which included walking, BART, the trolley) but they have shorter ones.

There's a lot to see and do in San Francisco. Don't forget to stop by Ghirardelli's as well and get some chocolates. :)
