livetotravel Posted June 15, 2004 #26 Share Posted June 15, 2004 njoynride, I read your review and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, I guess I didn't understand that E730 had a larger balcony than the other suites. It finally dawned on me when I was looking at pictures this afternoon. I promptly called and changed my cabin to E730!! Now I'm wondering if it would be better to be on the starboard side away from Club Fusion? Is there an aft view from the deck? The suite is a surprise for my husband - my coworker said that I couldn't keep a secret until we got there seven months from now and she may be right!! I would appreciate your opinion since you were there. Thanks soooooooooo much for taking the time to post. I see Larry is on this thread and he had a great review also. njoyndride Posted June 16, 2004 Author #27 Share Posted June 16, 2004 jerseygirl3 - We like the long ferry ride and weren't in any hurry. It's the same price either way if you include the cab to Red Hook vs. Charlotte Amalie and timewise about the same too. In fact, the ferry that we would have taken from Red Hook arrived just prior to the one we were on from Charlotte Amalie. Princess - We didn't go to any shows other than the movies. We did enjoy Graham at the various events and his morning show as well, he's a crack up. livetotravel - If you can get the opposite side it probably would be quieter. You do have a view off the back, it's really a great balcony. jerseygirl3 Posted June 16, 2004 #28 Share Posted June 16, 2004 njoyndride, oh I see. I tend to get a little seasick on smaller boats, so the shorter ferry ride from Red Hook suits me better. S.S.Oceanlover Posted June 16, 2004 #29 Share Posted June 16, 2004 we did the ferry from Charlotte Amalie and it was the roughest ride I ever had. Wife came close to losing her lunch. I was told by Islander that the Red Hook ferry is a lot smoother. So if ever I go back to St. John I'll do Red Hook. Now all I have to do is convince the wife. njoyndride Posted June 17, 2004 Author #30 Share Posted June 17, 2004 jerseygirl & Oceanlover - Red Hook to Cruz Bay is not nearly as rough as from Charlotte Amalie and it only takes 1/3 of the time. We had a couple of people who ended up sick on our way over, it was quite a bit calmer on the way back. S.S.Oceanlover Posted June 17, 2004 #31 Share Posted June 17, 2004 njoyndride, That's for confirming that! When we did it we had no choice as we took the ships excursion to St. John. We went the roughest way and got maybe one hour snorkel time by the time you figured in all the traveling. Lesson learned there. NEVER do the ships excursion. Being a little more experienced now I say that about almost all excursions. Charpin Posted June 17, 2004 #32 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Wow, what a great review! Thanks! I haven't seen this info posted anywhere else, so I'm going to ask what may seem a dumb question: is the aft pool on the Caribbean Princess "Adults Only" like the ones on the Golden and the Grand? I loved sitting back there, taking a dip now and again and reading my good books, on our last two cruises. And it was pretty quiet. Thanks for any info! njoyndride Posted June 17, 2004 Author #33 Share Posted June 17, 2004 My pleasure Bill, you must be getting very excited right about now! I always love the 2 weeks before we leave! I agree regarding ships excursions. We've had some wonderful times spending the day with locals, that's my favorite. Thanks Charpin! The aft pool is adult only and it REALLY was adult only, I never saw any children in there. It was very quiet, mostly 65+ year olds, who'd nap with their books in their laps every afternoon. Actually, I did the same thing but on my own balcony LOL. What part of No. Calif. are you from? DBDB9116 Posted June 17, 2004 #34 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Sharon, Did you notice if it was sunny a good porion of the time or was it shady? Thanks, DB
Charpin Posted June 17, 2004 #35 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Thanks, Sharon - I am SO looking forward to our cruise. We're taking our 17-year-old son and one of his friends, but they will be able to entertain themselves. I just love to relax by the pool - don't need sun, just a lounge chair, a good book, and a Diet Coke, and I'm in my version of heaven! We're from northeast of Sacramento - the Auburn area. Know it? S.S.Oceanlover Posted June 17, 2004 #36 Share Posted June 17, 2004 njoyndride, I'm justa tad excited now. Now the running around and getting last minute things done that you forgot about. We've had this booked since last September so it's been a long wait. I said to my wife last week that this is a lot of work for a weeks vacation, but well worth it once you get there. LarryF Posted June 17, 2004 #37 Share Posted June 17, 2004 OK Sharon, you hit nerve! Me and Amy were at the aft pool everyday and we're only 64!! Just kidding! Actually most of us aft pool lovers were 50ish and there were quite a number of 30's and 40's as well. You are right about kids as I don't remember ever seeing any kis. The area is almost completely in shade all day long! It is just so nice back there. It's very quiet, very relaxing and a great place to read. Also it's right behind the Caribe Cafe and I would go in there and get those great chocolate cookies all day long. Every now and then me and Amy would sneak over to the Neptune pool and listen to Deep Blue play their great reggae tunes! Nautical Lady Posted June 17, 2004 #38 Share Posted June 17, 2004 The aft pool isn't designated an adults only pool like you find on the Golden and Grand. However on our cruise in May we only saw kids swimming there one time. We also had Issac as our steward. He was the best we ever had. Great review-it brought back wonderful memories. njoyndride Posted June 17, 2004 Author #39 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Nautical Lady - There was a sign that said Adults Only, they must have added it after your cruise. I wanted to bring Isaac home with me, not for what he could do, just because he was so sweet. Larry - I said mostly, 65+ was the average, you were offset by that guy in his 80's LOL. Charpin, yes we know Auburn well, especially the Shell Station across from Ikedas, cleanest restrooms between here and Reno !
