Rudyard Posted September 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2017 We've decided not to do an excursion on our upcoming cruise, but we will probably want to get off the ship for a couple of hours and take the bus from the pier into Progreso. Are there any decent restaurants near where the bus drops you off?

Are there any decent restaurants near where the bus drops you off? There are numerous beach bar type restaurants in town across the bridge and a few bars at the port. LaShelle2 Posted September 26, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Are there any restaurants in the port area or just bars? You will need to ride the free bus to the town side of the pier for a better selection.
WomanWillSail Posted October 15, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 15, 2017 Many restaurants along the beach that also offer service under the beach palapas. Best restaurant in Progreso at the moment is Crabster.
WisRiver Posted October 15, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 15, 2017 WWS-Unless Crabster has improved dramatically in the last six months, my recommendation is Eladios on the malecon. Our last visit to Crabster was in March, 2017. The food was barely adequate, overpriced and with mediocre service. Our previous visit three weeks earlier was the same. Eladios can be noisy and crowded when the cruise ships are in port, but it is popular with locals (ex-pats and Mexicans).
courtlynndear Posted December 3, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 3, 2017 The bus takes you into town maybe three blocks or so from the beach. There are some places to eat but you will want to head towards the beach to find the restaurants. We ate at Los Henequenes and it was pretty good. The waiters actually pull their patrons from the street, though.. which can be a little strange but it actually was a good meal and cheap of course in USD.
