snorkeling in mazatlan/puerto vallarta?

Has anyone gone snorkeling off the shore , at any of these ports? somewhere you can walk as you get off the ship, so I dont have to book an excursion through the cruiseline?

Snorkeling anywhere near the ports in any of these cities is bad. The above poster is right, you need to take an excursion to one of the other islands. Snorkeling in the Pacific in Mexico really is not all that good to begin with. Don't get your expectations up in comparison to the Caribbean, Hawaii or Tahiti!
