We went on a Royal excursion that went to the botanical gardens and the zoo. We were initially hesitant about going to the zoo as our zoo here is pretty great. We really enjoyed it as it is set among the ruins of an old plantation and they used many of the old structures as bases for the exhibits. The botanical garden was also very nice. We have great photos from both.

Other idea:

Go to opposite side of the bay via cheap ferry from city pier- Trois ilets area - nice small beaches and take taxi to the La pagerie - museum of Napoleon´s wife Josephine - maybe five kilometres from Trois ilets. Not big, but interesting place.

If you like beaches - see for Salines beach in Grande Anse area - longer way cross the island, but beach is beautifull, stay for creole lunch in Le Diamant - pictoresque village with beautiful bay view...
