Can Teens Get Off In Ports Without Chaperone?

Hi

We also will be travelling with our teenaged sons. We have told them they are not to leave the ship without us. They can move around the ship freely, but are not to leave the ship unless we're together. Worked for us in the past. We tried to book excursions that would interest them so that they will want to come with us.

My daughter and her friend, both 16 at the time, got off the ship in the Bahamas without any trouble. They were both told never to leave the ship but they did it anyway. I even took one of the seapasses but they just went to guest relatons and said one was lost and had a new one made.

When I was in Cozumel I saw a teenager trying to get off the ship and he was not allowed to without an adult. It's really surprising teens were allowed to get off in the Bahamas. I cruised with my daughter and her friend (then 16 & 18) and they both followed my instructions and did not leave the ship without me. I told them it was more of a safty issue and I personally don't think teens wandering around alone is safe. I guess it's extremely important to stress to your son not to leave the ship without you.

Enjoy your cruise :o

A friend of mine was tr:) avelling with her two teenaged sons and extended family members a couple of years ago at Christmas time. Her son (16 at the time) got off the ship with his older cousin (23 at the time). The 16 year is a very good looking, blonde with blue eyes. He was pestered from the time he got off the ship with people trying to sell him everything from drugs to women. He was upset and frigtened by this experience, went back on the ship (which was sensible of him) and never left the ship without his parents again. I have told my sons that they are not to leave the ship without us. Better safe than sorry.....

I talked to my son about this since I found out it is possible. He told me he had no intentions and he likes being on the ship better. You just never know because they make many friends on the ship and if a bunch decided to get off they could change their mind and try it.

when i was in st. marteen and st. thomas last year, i got off both times. In both islands i left first with my parents and came back either alone or with them later. I was either with my sister or my friends when i left. Im 17, and was 17, so maybe that was a reason? Ill be 18 on my next cruise, so i know i def. will be allowed to. Hope this helps!

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to post my experience in case someone wants the info now. On our cruise in 2004, the only time my dd(14 at the time) wanted to get off was in Ocho Rios where we were going to Dunn's River Falls. She & my ds (18 at the time) went down ahead of me. At the door, they would not let my dd off -- they asked her where her parents were and she told them I was on my way, but they told her she had to wait for me -- they wouldn't let her off with my ds.

So, maybe it all depends on the port, or the person working the door, etc.

Who really knows???
