VitSea4me Posted June 7, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2004 It's really too bad that this post must be written. And it's really not the money ($2 total) it's the re-emergence of the stereotypical "Let's Screw the Tourist" attitude. The restaurant - La Estancia de San Sebas - was our lunch stop on the "Country Adventure" tour from the Carnival Pride. It was interesting to "experience" how many Mexicans live - away from the tourist cities. The citizenry was warm and friendly; and our guide Freddy was quite informational and accommodating. After leaving the "typical villiage" we motored to a very nice looking and well landscaped restaurant setting near Las Palmas. It was insulting to be standing in line (with others) to order a beer and have people ahead of you charged one price and you be charged a higher price for the same beer. When I questioned the price (no wonder why prices aren't posted...) the bar tender gruffly repeated the higher price. Only after an appeal to the manager was the correct amount charged. The experience didn't ruin our day or the trip, but it did serve to remind us that people need to be aware. Fair warning to all - at La Estancia, a beer is only $2 - not $3.
