Lois was the wife of Bill W and a non-drinker. She started Al-non to help the spouses of the louses (or something like that). She borrowed her husband's 12 step programme and changed it to be for the spouse of the Alcoholic to help themselfs deal with the problems with them and theirselfs. So meetings listed as friends of Bill W and Lois are for the alcoholics and their wife/SO/families and friends. It is also the first time that this 12 step progamme was used by another group to help themselfes. Since then many, many other groups use a 12 step programme that was borrowed from Bill W.
