Cruising89143 Posted December 19, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2005 I was checking last night for hotels in the FLL area for 12/01/06. The Hyatt Pier 66 was already sold out. I wound up booking the Marriott Marina for $349.00 for a water view. I guess with seven ships in port on 12/02, the rooms are booking up thus the higher rates. I do not do Priceline or any of those type websites. If anyone else is cruising out of FLL that weekend I would start checking around.
Bequia Posted December 19, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 19, 2005 That seems a little steep especially booking a year in advance. Have you checked out any of the other fine hotels in the area? You really could do a lot better with Priceline or Hotwire. Cruising89143 Posted December 19, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted December 19, 2005 I only checked with Marriott and Hyatt as those two overlook the port and that is something that I like. I know that the price is steep but with the Hyatt already sold out for 12/01 and 12/02, I am not taking any chances. I will keep an eye out during the year. I do not use services like Priceline. Just looked at Embassy Suites and it was $200.00 and the Renaissance was $349.00.
signman Posted December 20, 2005 #4 Share Posted December 20, 2005 It's steep because the rates are purposely set high for anyone who feels they absolutely have to book that far in advance. I'd say it's just as likely that the Hyatt isn't even open for booking rather than sold out. You're paying a high season rate, and Dec 1 is anything but. So keep your res for now, but keep checking back starting about 6 mos out and I'll bet you will find much better rates. And even though you don't do Priceline you certainly should check in at Hotels.com, Orbitz, or Expedia.
