Sounds nice!! I've just booked my first Seabourn cruise, Transatlantic (Ft. Lauderdale to Lisbon) on April 23, 2006. I know the Crystal board has a STEX program that will match the past guest with the newbie going on the same cruise, so that both parties will get some credits. Is there something like this on the Seabourn board? Or is there anyone like to do this with me so both of us can get $400 on board credit? Do you know how it works? I've just paid in full. ;)

You should have received the forms with the new brochure. If you didn't get them I would call Tessie Martinez at the signature club desk and ask her about it. Have your signature club number handy when you call that will make it easier for her. She is very nice and I am sure she will point you in the right direction.

Look it up on the internet and you can see all the advantages. It pays for itself real quick. Or cal a/x on the phone they will tell you all it has. If you travel a fair amount you have to go that route. Will look for you on the ship. Tell the desk on deck 5 you are looking for currencies and I will tell them you are looking for me.

We don't get credits in the UK (not unless we pay direct with Amex paying their inflated prices!) so don't know whether you'd get them in Australia.:o

 

Hello, Shefinch. I haven't got an American Express Platinum card but was wondering about getting one in order to obtain all the credits I've heard about. Are you saying that we can't get the on-board credits unless we book with American Express Travel Service direct?

We can get the referral credits here. After my first application got nowhere, I spoke to Tessie and then emailed my referrals. I was lucky to get in under the wire under the 'old' scheme and used my first credit on the Spirit last month.

I wasn't necessarily talking about getting credits with referrals. It appears that in the States provided you use AmEx to pay for your cruise booked through your travel agent, you get on board credits. We have a black Centurion card (which should give us more benefits than the Platinum card) and American Express themselves assure us that in the UK we cannot get on board credits unless we pay direct through them at brochure prices!!:o

I've been a platinum Amex cardmember for many years. Here are the facts. You CAN book any cruise at any rate you negotiate, that is to say, if you get a discounted offer directly from any cruise line that partipates in "cruise Priviledges" - which is most of them, you will receive either a two category upgrade or a shipboard credit (averaging around $300 per cabin).

 

Not many cruise lines offer the upgrades any longer, to levels that you and I as seabourn passengers expect, i.e., suite level, but the upgrades in most lines will allow the two category upgrade below the highest suite levels. BUT all offer the on board credit. Once a year AMEX gives back an ADDITIONAL $150 credit (directly to your card) to anyone who who books their travel through AMEX platinum travel service. So, all you need do is talk to Amex Platinum Travel service and have them book at the discounted fare you were offerred (no it doesn't have to be full fare) and they will obtain that discounted fare for you directly from the cruise line AND you will receive a $300 shipboard credit, a bottle of wine or other welcoming gift and a tour of the bridge a dinner with the captain, or some other benefit not generally available - at the discretion of the cruise line.

 

The benefits to amex platinum(or centurion) are significant - you buy one first class air ticket and the participating airlines(which are most of the major carriers) will provide a second first class ticket for your travel companion at no charge.

 

Here are some of the others, in addition to the cruise priviliges program - there is a benefit for guaranteed refund - if a merchant refuses to honor a returned merchandise credit, amex will give it to you.

 

if any item you purchase with the card is stolen or damaged or lost amex will replace it (within 90 days). I had a new Nikon destroyed by a wave that splashed over the edge of a zodiak we were tendering ashore on, the electronics were fried, AMEX replaced it. I dropped a polarizing filter off of my Hasselblad camera (the filter cost me $275) into a Fjord in Norway from my Balcony aboard HAL - Amex replaced it -

 

Showing your Platinum or Centurion card while traveling through airports will gain you entrance into many airline clubs without being a member - at no charge. I use continental exclusively whenever I can and their clubs are excellent. Show my continental ticket and my platinum card at the door and my family and I are in for free.

 

If you book your hotel through Platinums fine hotels and resorts, they guarantee you an upgrade (if a higher category is available upon arrival) at no additional charge at any of their resorts) and a special amenity while there - the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong's benefit is high tea once during your stay at no charge - We're staying at the Hayman Island resort in Australia post cruise in January and they are a member of AMEX's fine hotels and resorts - so I anticipate a suite upgrade upon arrival (if, of course, they have one available when we arrive) -

 

Holding a Platinum card also conveys higher level of membership in some hotel / auto rental clubs, including Starwood and Hertz. OH... and last but certainly not least, anything you buy with your card has "Buyer's assurance", which doubles the warranty of anything (unfortunately automobiles are excluded!)

 

A call to their Platinum customer service lands a REAL LIVE person who WILL solve your problem, courteously and efficiently.

 

there are numerous other benefits, but these are the ones most important and used by me as an individual who enjoys world travel.

 

I know this sounds like a commercial for American express, but these guys are great. I LOVE them!!!

Question...This will be my first Seabourn journey.. HOw do I spend the $400. shipboard credit? Casino? Shore Excursions? Extra tips? Upgraded wine? HOw many visits to the spa can one make?????????? and it sounds as though their house bubbly is quite ok. Thanks. Juliedawg
