Yokohama transfer

Princess has transportation available from both airports and from the Metropolitan Hotel Ikebukuro. This hotel is in the Ikebukuro section of Tokyo, a couple blocks from the Ikebukuro train station. It's also a decent hotel where we got a great rate for a week. Super location, easy to get to virtually anywhere in Tokyo from here.

You can also take a train to Yokohama and from the train station catch a bus to very near the cruise terminal entrance OR catch a cab from train station to the terminal luggage drop off site. It is a couple miles...like 2...from the train station to the cruise terminal--too far to walk with luggage IMHO. The bus from the train station will get you much closer. The trains run from the airports and from the city. Cabs in Tokyo are very expensive, and I'm only aware of shuttle companies from the airports to various downtown locations. I'm sure there are others that will take you from your hotel to the terminal, but I can't help with a name.

Everyone working in the transportation industry, airport kiosks, etc. speaks excellent English and is happy to help. We were even offered assistance when just standing on a street corner discussing directions. The people at the airport are happy to direct you to the ticket counters and the shuttles, trains, etc.

A google search was all we needed to find the exact trains and how to make it work. Bottom line--if you are able bodied, take either the Princess shuttle or the train to Yokohama. The train will save you a lot of money...enough for a nice excursion. If you are not physically able to handle the train, use Princess shuttle.

We used 24limousine for our transfers from Haneda to our Tokyo hotel and then from the hotel to the pier in Yokohama. We were very pleased with their service, very very pleased. There are certainly far more inexpensive ways to make the trips, but for our group with the length of time we were traveling and the luggage we were carrying, this was the optimal solution.

The drivers were punctual, helpful, polite, handled the luggage......it was just totally easy, carefree and very comfortable.

We took a cab to the above ground train station, which brought us to the infamous Tokyo underground subway. We took the subway into Tokyo to our hotel. Total cost was about $40 USD for the both of us, when a car was going to be $300.

When you get off in Yokohama, look for the guys with the reflective jackets. They have a sign on the back that says something like "language assistance," but basically they speak Japanese and English. We told him about our plans, and he told us exactly which stop to get off and which line to take on the subway, and then told the cab driver in Japanese where to take us. It worked out perfect.

Tokyo is one of my all time favorite cities. Enjoy every second, we loved it there.

Honestly, the Tokyo train and subway system isn't difficult. You just need to know which "line" you want to be on and which stop you want to get off at.

We would get this on line...google where we were and where we wanted to go and we'd get the info we needed. do this in advance--you won't have phone service in the train/subway stations.
