ATMs in Mexico versus ship's money

We are going on a cruise to Mexican Rivieria. Do ATM's in port give US$ or Pesos? Or is it best to use an ATM on ship. If I do use an ATM on ship, do they charge a high fee for the service?

Yes, they do, in comparison to the better option, which is: Go to the casino and get your cash (up to $2,000 per day is the max), which is then 'charged' to your ship board account. When it hits your credit card, it is like a purchase, rather than a cash advance. And if you have a 'rewards' type card, you will earn rewards on those dollars as well.

 

There is no fee to withdraw cash from the casino. Put $5.00 down on a blackjack table, or in a slot just to make it 'look' legit :) .....(but you don't have to do this)

I am not too knowledgeable about casinos. Can you tell me, is this a machine I use, or do I go to a teller.

I agree with tbelian, just go to the teller/cashier and get cash using your seapass.

We have used money changers in Cabo and PV and an ATM in Mazatlan where you can get pesos. The only thing we use pesos for is the bus - for everything you buy they are happy to take dollars. We always ride the local bus downtown in PV, and sometimes take a bus to San Jose del Cabo. Nancy

I do not want to get pesos, will they give US$ or only pesos?

You go right to the teller at the casino. No machine. You will get US$.
