Nassau excursions

Trying to decide what good way to spend the day in Nassau would be .Would like to hear some others experiences and suggestions. Thanx Bill

My husband did the snorkel with the sting rays and LOVED it!!! I wish I had done that. We all did the Breezes all inclusive resort and it was HORRIBLE!!! There was nothing to do but lay on the beach or go in the pool and drink free drinks and eat free food. As nice as that sounds - the day was cool and breazy, the staff at the resort were nicer to the guests of the resort and not the guests from the ship, and all of the guests were allowed to smoke EVERYWHERE! Normally, smoke does not bother me because my mother in law and brother in law smoke - but this place was very smokey at the pool and the beach and EVERYONE was smoking. I was not impressed at all. It was like a low budget resort to me. Just my 2 cents! I WISH I had gone to see Atlantis, but because I have been to Las Vegas many many times, I thought it would be similar to a mega resort there and didn't go. I wish I had though.

Go to Atlantis!! Money, and a day well spent! Go look at their website. You can get a day pass, in the lower part of the Coral Towers. Just tell the cab driver you are doing the day pass, and they will drop you off close to there.

 

If there are several people in your party, you might want to look at getting a hotel room at the Comfort suites, where you will have full access to all of the ammenities at Atlantis. Some of them are off limits to day pass people otherwise. Look for deals online.

DW, our friends and I walked up to Ardastra Gardens... a zoo, with mostly birds.. a very interesting Flamingo March.. there are a lot of chances to get pretty close to the birds

We went on Blackbeard's Snorkel with the Stingrays and it was a mistake. While the stingrays were impressive, the little black sand flies/fleas were so awful we're still itching almost two weeks later. Many, many bites that turned into welts. Not worth it IMO. I did read on the Bahamas section of the boards that others have had better experience other times of year.

 

You might check on that section of the boards for more discussion of the possibilities.

On our first visit to Nassau we were taking the water taxi over to Paradise Island and a man on the boat suggested we take the Booze Cruise. We decided to be brave and went on it! We first went snorkeling, which wasn't as good as the snorkeling elsewhere, in our opinion, and then we went to a beach on an island. They served us lunch and drinks (hence, the name of the cruise.). The Captain PROMISED us we would be back to the ship on time, and we were!

 

On our 2nd time there, we again had no plans for Nassau. When we got off the ship there were lots of tour operators at the end of the pier. We talked with one nice man who showed us his documents, and then took us all on a great tour. We went up to the water tower, Queen's Staircase, and then through town and over to Atlantis. We went through the casino, (be sure to see the Chihuly glass sculptures) and then to the Digs. We did all of this for $25 per person. (Agreed upon before we started.) It was a great tour.
