NAJNLA Posted January 5, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2006 Does anybody know where we can find a scheduled one day return excursion from Auckland on February 12 that would include the Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland? The Princess tour of this site from Tauranga on February 14 is fully booked.

Try the following sites for scheduled tours: www.purenz.com www.aucklandnz.com www.rotoruanz.co.nz and www.careys.co.nz does thermal area tours. Also see about getting in touch with Ian from Tauranga who posts on this board and does private tours.

Hi, Donah- Thanks for the inputs, but we're looking for a 1day return excursion from Auckland to the Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland that is regularly sheduled and has a tour description we can look over on a website. I couldn't find any on the first three links you referenced, and the last link (careys) did not work. Anybody else?
KiwiIan Posted January 8, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Does anybody know where we can find a scheduled one day return excursion from Auckland on February 12 that would include the Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland? The Princess tour of this site from Tauranga on February 14 is fully booked. Wai-O-Tapu [means sacred water] is a long drive from Auckland, between 2.5 and 3 hours. There would be a range of private tour companies who could offer a small group tour to this location from Tauranga. A main attraction of this site is the eruption of the Lady Knox geyser at 10.15 daily, so to see this you would need to leave Tauranga by 8.30 am latest. There are a number of walks through the geothermal valley from a short 45 minutes to the full one of up to 2 hours, depending on how fit you are. You could then go back and do some interesting things in Rotorua before heading back to the ship. If you can join up with a few other passengers you should be able to get the cost down to below that of the ships tour, even with 4 or 6 sharing a vehicle. Hope that help a little. Hi, Donah- Yes, I've been through all the many links and sub-links from that website....but have been unable to find any 1-day scheduled return tours or excursions that originate from Auckland and go to Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland. We would be open to using a regional bus line if the departure and return times to/from Auckland would work out for a 1-day trip.

Looking through all my stuff from the road trip (we had a car, so didn't really collect a lot of tour oriented stuff - sorry) - and find the following companies and phone numbers - no websites, though you could try a search: The Discover New Zealand Travel Center - "assist by booking activities and attractions, organising tours, flights, transport , and accomodation. They have information on Auckland, the Bay of Islands, Waitomo, Rotorua and the South Island at their fingertips..." Ph. # 09 307 4000 Kiwi Experience "is New Zealand's leading flexible transportaton network. Bus passes have been created to cover the major attractions, activities and out of the way scenic spots throughout New Zealand..." email enquiries@kiwiex.co.nz Phone 09 366 9830 Great Sights "luxury coach is a great way to discover Auckland...also runs day and overnight tours to the Bay of Islands, Rotorua, Waitomo Glowworm Caves and Ruakuri cave in Waitomo" Phone 0800 744 487. Maybe these will help!
