Cabin upgrades at embarkation

Are cruises usually full? Can anyone please tell me their experience upgrading at embarkation? Are empty cabins 'on sale', etc.?......Thanks in advance.
It all depends upon which cruise you've picked. We've had opportunities to upgrade, and have had full ships where none were available.

If you're interested in trying to play "Let's Make a Deal", you should arrive at the pier early so that you're one of the first in line, and rather than heading for a regular check-in desk, go immediately to the Pier Coordinator's desk. It's typically at one or the other of the far ends of the regular check-in area. Ask as you approach the check-in area.

The Pier Coordinator will be able to tell you if there are any cabins available, and will have a schedule of prices for your particular cruise. You may find prices discounted, or you may find them charging the full retail differential between what you paid and the current price of the new cabin. It's all a question of capacity on that cruise.

If there's something of interest, they'll take your charge card and bill you for the difference on the spot. They'll probably get your luggage to the right room in spite of the change, but if it seems tardy, it's a good idea to check your old cabin number. They'll move it for you if necessary.
