Hi, please help. I am so confused! I have read this entire thread and need clarification. We are flying into FLL May 4th for our cruise out of Miami on the Triumph May 5th. We don't arrive until 10 pm, so just want a clean, safe, reasonable hotel for the night. I have seen the Sleep Inn mentioned quite a bit and I want to be sure I have the correct one before I book it. The one I found was Sleep Inn & Suites SE 5th Ave Dania, Fl. Is that the same one? Thanks very much!

Yes that is the one everyone has been speaking of. Seems Dania is a suburb of FLL maybe?

Just an FYI. I think the Sleep Inn airport shuttle stops at 11 pm. We are getting in late too (11 pm) so I called the hotel to check.

I don't know if you were planning on using the airport shuttle, but I just wanted you to know.

We got the Ft. Lauderdale Grande for 5/19 for $85! Now I just need advice on the best ground transportation from the FLL airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the Port Everglades terminal.

Also, will need to make the liquor store stop for wine pre-cruise. Any suggestions? What's closest to the hotel?

Thanks

Bequia,

Thanks again for the info on Plantation and Weston, but...... just this morning I managed to get a good rate at the Extended Stay America !7th. St. Not the Hyatt Pier 66, but it will do fine for our needs.

The info that you, Signman, and TrentS. have provided here has been so vaulable to myself and I'm sure many others.

Thanks again, Kastaway Ken

We are staying at the Sleep Inn, Dania this Friday - I will post and let everyone know how it is.

Thank you, Donna. I'm particularly interested in finding out how the port shuttle works for you guys in the morning. Also, if you go across the street to eat at one of the restaurants there the night you get in let us know what you thought of the food.

YaYa, it's just easiest and for the distances involved, cheapest, just to hop into a cab.

There's an incredible liquor store across SE 17th St in the Cordova Road Shopping Center, behind the Embassy Suites. It's just a few doors down from the Publix supermarket. You'll only have to choose from 2000 types of spirits, 1000 beer and 8000 wine. http://www.totalwine.com

On the same side of SE 17th as your hotel you will come to Crown Wine & Liquor. Not as big, but should do.

Maggieworkman: thanks for the heads up. You're right, the shuttle does stop at 11:00. I called the hotel to check. Hopefully, our plane will not be delayed!

Unfortunately we arrive at 11:30 pm the night before our cruise and we are also planning on staying at the Sleep Inn. It sounds like getting a cab should not be too difficult and shouldn't be over about $15. Does anyone else have any knowledge about that?

Or else does anyone have another suggestion for a place to put our heads for the night before we start our vacation. Obviously something with a 24hr shuttle would be great where we are getting in late, but we want something that isn't to far out of the way, and clean. Am I expecting too much. (of course i don't want to spend the cost of a cruise to stay either!)

Any help will be appreciated!

Simply put, cabs are a dime a dozen and cab fare shouldn't be over $15

The Sleep Inn is newer and being located in a residential area, quieter. The Comfort Inn is located on a busy highway, cruisers on these boards have complained about the road noise (among other things). Both have nearby restaurants and wine stores. IMHO you'd be better off with the Sleep Inn. ;)

I apologize in advance if I missed this info. Can anyone advise on the Hilton Garden Inn Dania? Safe location? Restaurants and wine store in walking distance? Taxi availability? Only staying one night, but want a safe location. Thanks for any help.

GonnaGoCruising - not sure if you've found the info regarding other car rentals that are close to the port. If not -

There is also a Budget location in Quay shopping center right by the entrance to the port.

We are dropping our car rental off at this location when we cruise in April.

Hope this helps you - have a Great cruise :)

Hey I found another thread, about the Amerisuites on 17th street......$129/night.....can anyone give me information on this? I will read back on the thread and see what I might find, but we are leaving in a week. This rate is through Valuetrips and I was also wondering if anyone has any comments on using them?

THANKS!!!!

Great and informative thread! My DS and I will be flying into FLL on the 21st and leaving on the 23rd on the Carnival Liberty. We will most likely stay at Extended Stay. I'm interested in going to Sawgrass Mills and I was wondering if I should just rent a car or is there alternative transportation? I am thinking of renting a car from Budget, but I was wondering if they provide a shuttle to the cruise port? Thanks in advance for any help!

There is a great website that includes the Fort Lauderdale location, including surroundings.... It helps out with hotels, we are staying at the premier hotel, which is two blocks from the beach, for 89.00 and that is on March 21-25th Spring break time.... not the Ritz but good enough. It has been listed as clean and safe in other blogs. The website also has info on , shuttles, car rentals, touristy spots you can go to , suppermarkets, liquor stores, clubs... you name it, it has it try it out I hope it helps...

www.sunny.org

It also has maps of where the hotels are to-from the airport and ports.....

You don't really need a car OR a shuttle if you stay at one of these hotels. Just grab a cab, it's MUCH quicker and easier! They're all less than 10 minutes from FLL, just outside the entrance to Port Everglades and are surrounded by dozens of restaurants, shops, grocery, drug & liquor stores as well as the very popular Water Taxi all within safe, easy walking distance.

SE 17th Street hotels (closest to Port Everglades and FLL)...

Renaissance... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/FLLBR

Embassy Suites... http://www.embassysuites.com/en/es/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=FLLSOES

Marina Marriott... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/FLLFL

Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center"... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hd/fllcc

Extended Stay America... http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/hotels/fort-lauderdale-convention-center-marina.html

AmeriSuites... http://amerisuites.com/reservations/locationdetail.asp?facid=3929

AmeriSuites is cheaper on Valuetrips... http://www.valuetrips.com/AMS/FL/F17.htm

Here's a list of the SE 17th Street area Restaurants...

Tara Steak & Lobster is right next door to Extended Stay America... http://www.tarasteakandlobsterhouse.com/

Carlos and Pepe's (Mexican) & Durty Harry's (bar with food) are in the same shopping center as Tara. There's also a small diner in that strip mall that I've been told has an excellent breakfast.

Einstein Bros. Bagels is across the street from Holiday Inn Express/Extended Stay America... http://www.einsteinbros.com/

Bimini Boatyard and Bravo (great Italian restaurant) are both across the street from Holiday Inn Express/Extended Stay America, and about a block east, opposite the Renaissance Hotel... http://www.bravoitaliano.com/

Jack Jackson's new restaurant FISH is across the street from the Renaissance hotel, attached to the Convention Center complex at the entrance to Port Everglades... http://www.fish-fl.com/

Chuck's Steakhouse... http://www.chucksflorida.com/

And Waxy O'Connors are both across the street from Embassy Suites, a long block west of Holiday Inn Express/Extended Stay America... http://www.waxys.com/

Outback Steakhouse and Del Rio Tex Mex are just west of Embassy Suites, and Quarterdeck is across the street and a block north of Embassy Suites on Cordova Road, just beyond Winn-Dixie... http://www.quarterdeckrestaurant.com/

Kelly's Landing is a great New England style seafood place in a strip mall on Cordova Road, across the street from Winn-Dixie.

If you want some excellent ice cream, Aspen Ice Cream is next door to Office Depot, in the large yellow strip mall across the street from Tara and Carlos and Pepe's... http://www.aspenicecream.com/

There are 3 large strip malls around Holiday Inn Express/Extended Stay America - More or less across the street, next door, and behind, as well as several smaller ones. There are at least a dozen other small restaurants scattered throughout those strip malls, plus a number of fast food and carry-out places in the area as well... You'll never go hungry along that section of SE 17th Street, there's something for every taste and budget.

Publix grocery store is in the large strip mall a block south on Cordova Road, behind Embassy Suites. Publix sell beer & wine as well as being very large, very nice grocery stores.

Barnie's Coffee & Tea is in the same strip mall as Publix, a few stores to the west, next to Carvel Ice Cream... http://www.barniescoffee.com/

Crown Wine and Spirits is across the street from Embassy Suites, behind the Chevron station, and 67 Wine & Spirits is across the street from Crown.

Winn-Dixie grocery store is next door to Crown, and there's a CVS drug store in the same strip mall as 67 Wine & Spirits.

Walgreens drug store is a block east of Holiday Inn Express/Extended Stay America, across the street from the Renaissance hotel.

The restaurants above are just those that you can easily walk to. If you take the Water Taxi you can easily get to dozens more. The nearest Water Taxi stop is 2 long blocks east, under the SE 17th Street Bridge, in front of the Marina Marriott hotel... http://www.watertaxi.com/FortLauderdale/FLLHome.Asp

Some popular places easily accessible by Water Taxi are...

15th Street Fisheries... http://www.15streetfisheries.com/

Jackson's Steakhouse... http://www.jacksonssteakhouse.com/

Shirttail Charlie's... http://www.shirttailcharlies.com/

Fort Lauderdale Riverhouse... http://www.ftlauderdaleriverhouse.com/

Downtowner Saloon... http://www.downtownersaloon.com/

Shooter's Waterfront Cafe, and at the same stop Taverna Opa... http://tavernaoparestaurant.com/

Charlie's Crab... http://www.muer.com/locations/chcrab...ab-ftlaud.html

The many many restaurants and shops along beautiful Las Olas Blvd... http://www.lasolasboulevard.com/

And Las Olas Riverfront... http://www.riverfrontfl.com/

Any good sushi restaurants near the Renaissance?

Anyone stay at these two hotels recently? Which one is better? Both priced the same for one night pre-cruise.

Thank you!

The Hyatt is a resort, the Grande...well, it's just a hotel. You'll be quite pleased with the Hyatt. ;)
