Caribbean Scuba Divers

Well, this is just an experiment. My wife and I have been on a couple of cruises and dove in several ports. We've met some great people with whom we enjoyed diving and sharing stories. We'd like to do more of that. We'd like to find other folks who would like to comisurate with other divers and share thir fun times and challenges. Tell stories, share pictures and videos. Get together on cruises we would be going on with other group members. Find people we can rely on as buddies to collaborate on dives to improve dive safety. Propogate reef preservation and a balance of species; hunt lionfish, maybe do something to preserve and protect our reefs, implant coral. We know that reefs are the Genesis of Ocean Life and we have to preserve and protect them to ensure our own survival on this planet. And that's what God really wants. So, why not get together and give it a shocontribute? Fun for the whole family... Let us know what you think of this idea.

Thanks,

Cheers,

Carole and Charlie

Hi!

I'm new to the board, and am looking for all sorts of information here. I'm also a new cruiser; my first cruise will be Celebrity Solstice February 3-10, 2013. I usually dive with my hubby, but this cruise is with my mom only, a non-diver. So I will need a buddy if I dive. If you have any input on diving near San Juan, Puerto Rico, Philipsburg, St. Maarten, or Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, it would be much appreciated! How good is the coral and Should I go with the cruise arranged trip? How is diving from a cruise and with the cruise tour, from your experience? (I've only done liveaboards and dives while staying put on an island.) Are there better, less cattle boat style outfits on the island? Are there times you have decided it is more worthwhile to just snorkel? I look forward to all input!

Hello Group -

I just returned from a trip on Freedom of the Seas and took my 14 year old on his first Caribbean dive at Eden Rock on Grand Cayman. If you have never been, this is a must-see. Easy shore dive with plenty to see.

Heading back on Freedom June 2015 with a possible trip in May. See you all on the high seas for more diving!

Jonathan

My daughter and I are on the Celebrity Eclipse 16 Nov 2015 cruise and would like to link up with any other scuba divers that are interested in diving. We intend to book directly with the local dive shops at the 7 ports of call. I am new to this cruise critic board and have not figured out how to find responses to my posts so please email me at dreamliveprosper@gmail.com I do lots of cruising and diving so let me know if you have any cruises planned and I will let you know if I am going too. I mostly cruise with Celebrity, Royal Caribbean and sometimes Princess. I look forward to hearing from any scuba divers.

Nice to "meet" you all!

My husband and I are new divers (open water certified Naui Sept 2014) and are traveling to the Caribbean on the Celebrity Eclipse (Nov 29, 2015). Here is info that I found regarding scuba:

Miami: TripAdvisor Diving best rated:*http://www.southbeachdivers.com/

Aruba: Antilla*wreck and Pedemales torpedoed oil rig

TripAdvisor Highly Rated: HappyDiversAruba.com

Curacao: - one day in port some recommend: Directorsbay and Tugboat or Vaersenbay and Snakebay. Mushroom Forest and Alice in Wonderland (Playa Kalki) are supposedly boat dives and far from port. Superior Producer is a deep dive, which the cruise ship will be docked over. Some popular dives are overrated, so lesser known remote and secluded dive sites like Shon Mosa and No-name. Also available and accessible, underwater marine park coral reef in Puerto Mary, Sea Aquarium Park.

TripAdvisor Best Rated: Bas Harts Diving

Grenada:Not so good as far as I can tell… drift diving, Wrecks - Bianca C, Veronica L, Shakem, Minesweeper (strong current - advanced?) Purple Rain on Carib side OR Shark Reef on Atlantic. Also, Underwater Sculptures Park scuba may be your thing.

TripAdvisor Highly rated: http://www.scubatech-grenada.com

Barbados: Not so good as far as I can tell… mostly shallow, Stavronikita 140’, Berwyn (Carlilse Bay) 25’

TripAdvisor Highly Rated: http://www.ecodivebarbados.com

St. Lucia: Not usually chosen as dive spot but good dives available!

mostly shallow (West coast) Virgin Cove, Rosamond Trench? Fairyland?

wall / Drift dives - Superman’s Flight under Pitons, Petite Piton?

wrecks - Lesleen @ Anse Cochon (Anse Chastanet Reef) in Soufriere

TripAdvisor highly rated: http://www.scubastevesdiving.com

Antigua: WIT Shoal (where?), Carvel Rock (too strong currents?), Grass and Mingo Cays (gentle sloping reef), Sail Rock, Salt River - East vs. West?

St. Kitts: 20 sites - near shore reefs, River Taw wreck, Paradise reef (Coral Canyon), Nevis Island - Western Shore and Channel diving

TripAdvisor highly rated: http://www.prodiversstkitts.com/

St. Maarten: seas can be rough, some say diving not great, many say skip

Proselyte Ship wreck from 1801 Shallow dive

TripAdvisor highly rated: http://www.scubafundivecenter.com/

Disclaimer: these are my notes after checking trip advisor reviews, independent scuba company websites, scubadive.com, and scubaboard.com. I am just posting them here because it is a lot of work, and I was hoping to find such direction myself. I hope it helps you! So this info is for reference only! I have no connection or experience with any of these companies or dives.

Some of these blogs / companies / country tourist websites have more info (and some dive maps) available on their websites. However, companies say that it is hard for them to guarantee diving at specific sites due to weather and other conditions.

Most of these dive companies rates range from $95 - $140 per 2 tank dive/ per person based on equipment rental, dive type / location, etc.

Good luck!

Mandy

Hi Ya'll.

My husband and mainly dive in Cozumel and Grand Cayman. We use an independent dive shop in Cozumel and shore dive near the pier in Grand Cayman.

We will be on the Celebrity Eclipse Christmas cruise and wonder if any one has found a local dive shop for Aruba. We will take the ship's excursion at Bonaire.

Greetings. I've been diving for 15 years and became a Divemaster 6 years ago. Used to go diving in the Caribbean all the time but been away from the Caribbean for around 5 year now. Mostly diving in Texas, Canada and Mexico lately.

Hoping to get back to cruising in the near future and more Caribbean diving.

Hey all!

We are travelling on Allure of the Seas March 4 '18. We are cruising St a Thomas Nasseau Andy at Marteen. I hear that they aren't the best places to snorkel/scuba. If you could recommend anything for newbies I would sure appreciate it.

Thanks!

We just got open water Certified and will be cruising to Hawaii next month on Carnival Splendor. We’ll be grateful for tips and recommendations for dive shops that can accommodate our port call schedule, particularly in Maui.

Next few cruises will be to the Caribbean from Galveston since a short drive from home.
